This is really beautiful. The design is really lovely with very matching colours. Leaving an impression of elegance and royalty. I like how the lower part of the dress look like waves.
May I ask how you did the golden linings on the lower part?

Thank you very much... oh, it's a simple bias tape on every circle skirt ^_^ (on the hole costumes I used about 70meters of the bias tape XD)

70 meters.. That is...a few circles around a house.

Anyway, I like the golden parts in this dress. It's really well done.

Oh, and I know that you're probably being SWAMPED with comments and the like right now, what with your Daily Deviation (and a well deserved one, at that. How I found you!) but I was hoping once things calm down for you if you could answer a question for me. I would LOVE to design a hanfu of my own (this looks like so much fun to make! All of my favorite fabrics rolled into one costume!) but I'd like to do some real research to understand the proper traditions before I go breaking any. Could you point me in the direction of the research you did, just so I know where to start looking?

*haha* uhmm, I have to say my only research was a sale/shop-Homepage for chinese stuff, among other things, some hanfus for Ball Jointed Dolls.
I saved many of this BJD-Hanfu-Pics on my comupter long time ago. And when my cosplay-partner Nikoschka and I planned to make a new cosplay, I showed her all the pics and we decided to make such hanfu as a costume for Michiru and Haruka.
So our Hanfu Design isn't real traditional XD

XD Sounds like me! Thank you! May I ask you another question? The skirt of your hanfu, is it a circle skirt pattern, or just very flared? It's got gorgeous flow to it (flow like water! I see what you did there ;3) and I've always loved the way circle skirts were so full, but I can't tell if this is a true circle or not. I'm just curious; I'm studying clothing construction, so I'm interested in any pattern work you did.

4 full 360Β° circle skirts ^^
The first skirt has a radius of 1,5m, than the second 1,4m, than 1,3m and the teal one (at the "top") has 1,3m in radius. +/- of course ^^
Every skirt is seperate and with a elastic band in the waist ^^

It's a bit heavy to walk with all 4 skirts, even because they are so long (and of course because it's a huge amount of fabric) but when you take the favric in your hands (or better.. hold it in your arms XD) it works ^^

Dankeshon! Again, beautiful work. I love the gold bias binding you did on the edge of everything. Gives it just a little elegant pop and I'm sure it was a much easier way to hem fabrics like those that are usually so difficult. I look forward to seeing more work from you!

All in one... I guest it was about 37 meters (only fabric). You have to know I wear 4 circle skirts ^^
