Every time I see a new fancharacter who is immortal and just so happens to be stuck at the age of the author, I want to scream, "Don't you know what that means? To be immortal means you never die, and you're stuck on this world forever! While everyone around you grows old and dies, and you are forever young!" So, with that in mind (and while musing on whether Shadow is immortal, ageless, or just has a thousand-year life expectancy), I scribbled out this. Shadow will outlive even his illustrious rival, and I don't imagine he'd be real happy about it.Edit: Centered the stripe on Shadow's head because it wasn't. Touched up a few details.

I feel most fan fics about Shadow should cover this aspect about him a lot more really.

A Sonic head canon I read:
Because of all the rings Sonic has absorbed over the years, Sonic now has the power of resurrected immortality. If he ever does somehow fall in battle, within a few seconds he will get up again fully healed of his wounds and ready to fight again. Sonic does not yet know this, and hopefully will never have to.
Basically Sonic is immortal like Shadow is AKA He can’t die naturally or from any disease. So at least Shadow will still have Sonic no matter what.

One thing I've considered is Sonic gaining immortality because of his bond with the chaos emeralds (unintentionally on his part) and coming to terms with it through Shadow's help. It's bittersweet but at least they will have each other. Though they can still die. They'd just bee hard to kill.
Sonic would be be glad he can keep Shadow company but still not all the way happy about the situation. Yes both can still die from whatever but the thought is Linda scary.

Yeah, being immortal sucks in that sense. In theory, Shadow would outlive even Silver.

Well, technically, Shadow has a few ways around it.

I know he still can die by either getting killed or suicide, but it's still a sad thought that he'll outlive all of his friends.

But if he lets someone discover the secret of his immortality (which Project Shadow was originally meant to do), it can be bestowed upon others.

Well, that would mean he would meet Silver somewhere along the lines of his life, most likely. But, even then, that won't last.

Ah, but there's a loophole in the curse-"immortal" does NOT equal "invulnerable". You can still be hurt, therefore you can still die. Just not from old age.

I always thought being immortal would be a great gift but sometimes im like "why" and this voice in my head is saying " would you rather be immortal and see all your friends grow old and die or be just like them, mortal?" im trapped inbetween in saying yes and no. It gets tireing .
sometimes i think when your immortal your wise and you learn from your mistakes more quickly( i think).
also, would you want to fall in love with someone who's mortal? Once they die you dont have someone to fill in the emptyness in your heart.
immortality can be torture and if "if" i was immortal, immortality would be the death of me. I would take two knives and stab myself constantly intil my body lost huge amount of blood and i slowly lose consciousness. Maybe if i could tolerate it it wouldnt bother me.
plus would and or could anybody find peace with themeselves?

Hmm......immortal means never dying ever from anything. Shadow is only ageless, but can still die from illness or severe injury.
In any case, it's a nice portrayal of a disguised curse. Immortality is disguised as a blessing that almost everyone would want, but they don't know the truth of it all.

This reminds me of a Sonic Comic that used to be on the website, The Mystical Forest Zone. It was called "Immortal Curse."
In the Immortal Curse Comic, it was about a Hedgehog who becomes immortal after winning a challenge against the God of Life and Death. However, after doing so, he then deeply regrets it, for even though he can't die, he can still feel pain, and he has to watch as all his mortal friends get old and die, while he cannot. The Hedgehog then sets out to find a way to give up his Immortality and get the death he deserves.

Immortality has been on my mind for awhile this past week, what would the psychological effects be like, even is you have others to be immortal with you, things begin to lose their meaning, and you find that every day begins to overlap the next. No matter how much you love someone, after eons their comes a time that you find the peace to just want to forget it all and start from the beginning all over again.

You can only hold so much data in your brain before it deteriorates. The human mind might be able to last around a few centuries before this happens (not accurate). I wonder how long it'll take Shadow...

Well perhaps immortality also includes regenerative healing allowing the brain to repair itself and store new data....IDK

I always found that it takes a certain kind of personality to be an effective immortal character. They can either be distant, avoiding personal connections, but that lends itself to becoming pidgeonhold into an anti hero. It also works for villains because they're sociopaths, they don't care if everyone around them dies.

Ageless means that he'll never get old but can still die a premature death such as dying in a fight from severe bleeding etc:
Immortal means that you cannot die, no matter what.

Immortality can make people go crazy.
An can you imagine how hard it would be to find a friend or boy/girlfriend if they knew your secret? and then you'd have to watch funeral after funeral...

Shadow is both immortal and ageless, just to clear it up. I have learned to hate immortals characters bar Shadow and have stopped applying them to my fanfictionary.
