This will be concept art for a fic, if I can swing it. However, I kind of need to play the Shadow game first, and see if a scene like this is even plausible! Darn game ... I have the thing half adapted in my head already.Anyway. The monster-dragon-alien thingies are roughly based on the winged critters from the videos of the Shadow game. In the video you never see the thing's face, so I adapted the boss critter's face. Dig the one eye and the mandible things. I love beasties with mandibles.
Sonic's sword has burned out, Shadow's almost out of bullets, and they're surrounded. They're in a tight spot. The bird there is Nox, Shadow's chao when he has a chaos emerald. I modeled him after a secretary bird, since they're leet and have a distinctly pheonix look to them.
Edit: Much happier with the coloring now. I discovered the Pattern brush. Look closely at the Chaos-man thingy, and note the metallic scales on his head. Teh woot.

Ah, it's from a fanfic called Slave and the Darkness. It takes place after Sonic Adventure 2, and I had taken the angle that Shadow more or less died at the end. So, Slave picks up from there. netraptor.deviantart.com/art/Sβ¦

Wow, this is concept art? After you've played the game, if the idea for the story will work out, I'm sure it'll be awesome. I can feel the tension of this moment just by looking at the scene.
You have fantastic care to detail, especially when it comes to your color jobs. I love how you put alot of the detailing and texture in just with the colors. Do you draw your lineart digitally, or is it scanned and then inked or something? Regardless, it looks very nice. ^^ You did an awesome job applying depth and perspective to this. You can tell Sonic and Shadow are sort of in a tough spot there, especially with Sonic bleeding like that. I think the aliens have the upper hand here. =S
I think it's pretty cool how you made Shadow's frame robotic like that, since we can't really be sure if he's an organic life form or not at the moment. XD You did such a nice job with the lighting and texturing, especially on those aliens. Beautiful scenery as always, too. Keep it up! This has alot of feeling.

My lineart is all done by hand on paper, then scanned and colored digitally. My mom says that my sketchbook looks like a coloring book. XD Thanks for the in-depth comment! I highly appreciate them. Oh yeah, and whenever I draw Shadow as partially robotic, it's from my fics. I got around all the "is Shadow a robot" rumors by making him semi-robotic, and it ups his angst factor. Which, knowing Shadow, is a good thing.

And as for Shadow as a robot, that probably does help make some great story ideas. I wonder if it'll turn out that the Shadow in Sonic Heroes was a fake? I guess we'll find out when the next came is out. =]

They're not that hard, really. It started out with just Sonic kneeling with Shadow protecting him. Then I went, "Hey, let's put Nox in here and make it a reference to my fics." Then I put in the tree for Sonic to be hiding behind. Then I needed Sonic to be looking at something, so I drew in the alien with the sword. Then I figured it had to get there somehow, so I drew in the beastie. Then I put in the other baddy causing havoc. Then I put in the mountains so it'd be easier to color. And there you go.

Whoa! Now this is really excellent! =] lots of emotion flowing througout this whole picture! I don't know if you edited this pic or not, but I saw it through my messages *nods* and will comment on it anyways ^_~. Wow, this picture is really detailed and fairly filled with excellent expressions. The way you colored it is really awesome, soft but yet not that soft, in a sort of way, er, or maybe I am not being accurate and its just me being weird. or an opinion! *nods franctically and then shot*. Anyways enough of my ramblings and on to the picture! ;__;;;. XD. Anyways, The character design that you have done for the bad guys ? are really nifty and evil-ish looking with the really nice touch of putting in those raging intense eyes! Looks really awesome! The way you uniqley designed the swords are really awesome, instead of straight you made it into a different shape! Had to really compliment that part as well!
I must also say, the textures and the brushes that you used looks really awesome and great! It really looks awesome and good! I also love the beautiful sunset creeping beyond the horizon over there, really looks beutiful considering the stuff thats happening in the foreground. The sky and the area enclosed on the characters are beautiful and really well done! 
Also, how you drew shadow is really uniqe considering half part of his body portion is completly mechanical! Really awesome, showing a side of shadow as a machine and partly ultimate life! =] Really excellent job giving that off there, but doubting thats why you drew shadow like that ne? XD. Hahahaha. Anyways. Ouch! Really painful on the ear...sonic looks really hurt! owie...that one just really makes me go oooohhhh, ouuch. and stuff...poor sonic. ><. And I really love sonics position, how he is positioned on the ground helpless, as shadow goes in front of him and stands sonics ground! This picture also shows a little bit of kindness in shadow dont you agree ne? I must also say with the coloring, the color that you coordinated with are simply perfect and really exellent ! and really out going with the highlights and the shades! My gosh! This is flowing with lots of colors I can't really explain! And greatness as well, sorry, I havent been making really great comments right now, so please bare with me for a sec mkay? ^_^. Though its true I really LOVE This picture, but I always give my in depth comments to almost anything I have comming up in my messages! *nods* I now then have 400 more to go XD. My fault for making such long comments, I just feel that its so much better giving out my outlooks on the pictures, it really helps me and I belive to look in more on their own work and actually noticed the things the artists acomplish ne? =]. Good grief, you really liked this pic! Thanks for the in-depth comments! I know how hard they are to write. Shadow's half robot because I made him that way in my fics (but if you've listened to the Slave and the Darkness radio drama, you know how he got that way). I'd like very much to make this into a fanfic, but since I kind of have to play the game first, this pic will have to be it's own stand-alone visual story.

And another thing, what tools do you use on those creatures? because those are like the wow.

Oh, I mixed and matched the pattern brushes. I used the ones that looked like scales, and set them to Dodge on the light places and Burn on the dark places. I was trying to avoid the "waffle" look when a pattern repeats too much. Dodge and Burn were really the secret to this picture. And the various pattern brushes that come by default with Photoshop. I tried pretty much all of them.

I appreciate good battle scenes because I myself have a tendency to draw my characters rather passivly, a bad habit I need to break. Anyway, monday 16 starts E3, so keep your eyes out for more info on Shadow the hedgehog

Aw, poor Sonic - his ear looks pretty paintful. Do torn ears heal at all? And you can draw blood pretty well, heh heh. Those monsters look pretty freaky, though, and I love the way you've given them different textures - that one on the left looks like he has fire going up his leg. And the smoke coming off Shadow's gun is rather nice, too, all wispy. Hm. Rather them than me, but very nicely done picture. I think there's a spot at the end of Nox's wing, BTW? Just thinking it might be more obvious if you made a wallpaper. Anyhoo, lovely image. It looks pretty desparate.

Battle scenes like this one, I think, which involve many characters all doing their own thing at once, are frequently SO detailed that they can hurt the eyes, giving them no real place to rest.
Each instance was carried out so well!
The colour is awesome...you did an amazing job here, too, and it's probably my favourite aspect of the piece. I love th sunset coulour scheme!! It's not just orangey colours painted in the sky; you really brought out the TRUE feeling of a sunset, with touches of violet in the soil's shading, reflex lighting on the various elements, and, of course, the backlighing of the low-setting sun.

Thanks for the comment! It's nice to have a complex pic like this appreciated, but I don't think I did a good job on the coloring. I'll touch it up later. And secretary birds live in Africa, and they kill snakes. Look 'em up on the Google image search. They have gorgeous long eyelashes, oddly enough.

Awesome! I'm doing a pic w birds in it, now, so I'll check it out. I'm crappy w realistic animals and always needs refs.
And google image search is nice, but I stopped using it: it's not predictable enough.
SO, I started using gettyimages.com. They have a MASSIVE amount of pics there, w a very specific search engine. Not all of the images are rights and royalty free, so you can't copy them exactly or close-to-exactly, but it's still good for reffies ^^ And exact copying is no fun anyway >.>

I haven't written anything yet. This is just concept art. And Sonic and Shads swiped their weapons from the aliens, so it's not like the aliens are using medeval weaponry. I was going to draw some spaceships back there, but I ran out of room. :-p

Wow, a real good concept art thing. Loving the pose that Shadow and Sonic are in, and the secretary bird/phoenix is really awesome. I bet Sonic's not going to want to go near those things again after getting that ripped ear XD. I noticed Shadow's Mekion as well, which makes it all the more interesting. I think for just seeing the alien thingies in the trailer you've interpreted themperfectly. And the background is excellent of course.
