Description Chapter 2: Holding Cell

The dark that had kept them hidden for the past four hours finally parted.  The hatch of the truck lifted revealing a bustling city in the back ground.  The fresh air swept in and cleaned out the putrid smell that they had been confined in since their journey began.

“Isn’t that the spaceport at ZhengZhou?” HuKai whispered in awe.  The boys had never seen much of the outside world since they had spent so many years training at the temple.   A low rumbling could be heard in the distance as a spaceship lifted off the ground.  All the boys gazed upwards amazed at the sight.

“You kids are truly pathetic.  But don’t worry, you’ll get to experience space travel first hand yourselves.”  A large man wearing a black shirt and pants said as he stepped out of the truck.  The kids were ordered out of the truck.  As they filed into lines, they noticed for the first time several large containers just beside the truck bearing freshly painted ChrysoCorp logos.  “Hope you kids enjoy your new home for the next month, it’s gonna be a long ride.”  And with that they were split into four groups and ordered into the containers.  “These pods were made especially for you and they’re real expensive, so don’t go breaking anything.  Got it?”  The kids simply stared back at the man.

Once again they were plunged into darkness as yet another door was closed on them, but this time it was only temporary.  A hum began to vibrate through the container and light appeared from several panels in the ceiling. They observed their surroundings as the light continued to glow brighter.  It wasn’t much, but it was definitely more comfortable than the crowded truck.  At least they had enough room to sit down.  There were even mattresses bolted to the floor that they could sleep on.  There weren’t enough for all of them, but they could share.  The walls were a uniform grey with no decoration save for a few black and gold ChrysoCorp logos painted on the walls.  Apparently this container had been used before.  One of the logos had a few letters scratched out so that it read “C rysoCo p”.  The beds were noticeably worn down and a little ragged.  There were several hatches on the floor, these lead to the bathroom which consists of two small toilets filled with a green liquid and a sink that had ceased functioning sometime in the past.  The container lurched upwards, the sudden motion caused a few of the boys to lose their balance and tumble across the floor.  There was a loud crash and the container settled back down.  The growl of a motor could be heard.

They must be on their way to the spaceport ShiXian thought.  He looked around for his brothers.  He could see WuJin in one of the far corners, but HuKai and WuShi could not be found.  They must have been separated and put into separate containers.  ShiXian wondered if they would ever see each other again.  Losing the temple and their parents was difficult, but could he stand losing two more of his brothers? WuJin noticed the worried look on ShiXian’s face and came over to him and whispered:

“Be strong brother.  Together we will rebuild the temple, whether it’s here or on a distant planet.  We will recreate it stronger than ever, this I vow.  One day we shall be strong enough to destroy those who oppress us!”  WuJin had a fire burning in his eyes that could not be extinguished, not even by his current circumstances.  “We shall be reunited with our brothers I’m sure of it. Some day I will make ChrysoCorp pay for these transgressions."

The containers were settled inside of two rockets destined for outerspace.  The engines ignited and sent them towards the heavens leaving behind two white curling trails of smoke, and the dreams of a hundred young boys.
