Description
Earth, the capital world of the Earth United Nations and homeworld of the human species, is the most industrialized and militarized world in the entire Orima Cluster, and like many other homeworlds have suffered severe environmental damage due to pre-fusion industrial expansion. Along the major coastlines massive walls were constructed in the late 21st century to manage the resulting sea rise from glacial melting, and much of the continents are spanned by massive eco-management structures that keep the areas habitable, with natural wildlife confined to small, and select few, national parks to make way for the sprawling industries and metropolises, and the farmlands and mines needed to feed them, while most of the seas are heavily polluted. After the invention of high-gain nuclear plasma rockets in the 2040ies exploiting off-world objects for their resources became all more realistic, and serious steps began to be taken to avoid further habitability reduction and environmental destabilization after the Great Floods of 2049 largely swallowed up the metropolitan area covering what is now the eastern coast of the United North America. Many former deserts have been transformed into habitable and fertile lands with largely artificial ecologies, while the former equator has become completely uninhabitable beyond the coastline; with inland temperatures often reaching above 70 Celsius during the daytime and hard-UV scouring through the depleted ozone layers, this area is commonly known as 'The Scorch'. With the help of terraformation specialist corps from various Starfarer Ring species, many nations have tried to recover in biodiversity; as bioforming is a long-term process it is to early to judge the success, although many coral reefs have been resuscitated in the last 200 years and marine biodiversity has started recovering.
Despite their heavy involvement in colonial wars and proxy warfare, the nations Earth have only been directly struck by non-Earth forces in suicide attacks, the most notorious being the 2248 bombing of the Euro-Atlantic Boundary Wall performed by a group of Capriconian-funded and trained insurgents, and the 2374 Johannesburg Cataclysm when a religious extremist movement, the Converts of Cthitonic Cleansing, boarded an African Union cruiser and detonated its warheads while at port.
After the galactic community's first contact with humanity, the Kunari Restrictions, which ban the deployment of megaton and larger scale ordinance in areas sporting natural ecologies, were redefined to also preclude the deployment of such weapons on homeworlds.

Hello:

It is an interesting background story as you really seemed to have extrapolating from all the pollution issues we have nowadays.

Also, Babylon5 still seems to be the only franchise that has the capital outside the USA XD .

Thanks ^^_^^

Well, I think the United Nations of Earth from Stellaris have their capital in Ulm. Not that you´d notice since it´s grand strategy; each planet is treated as a single area.
For me it´s mostly that the real-life UN assembly is in New York. And Supreme Court in Geneva! Perhaps I should note out a third country as the location for the Secretary General´s office? XD

Hello:

 You are welcome .

There are plenty of good places on Earth, but places like New York clearly makes it easier for narrative since most people have seen at least soe of it thansk to all series and movies. But since it is your setting, then it's your decision and nobody else's .

^^_^^

That is true, though it would likely be very different in 700 years (I mean, by this time Lady Liberty would be standing in water and the Manhattan skyline would be unrecognizable).
Though maybe a good idea would be to place both Assembly, Court, and GenSec office in countries that are not part of any major coalition, such as Switzerland, the United Koreas, and Belize.

There is always a lot of work to be done when making world-building, I myself have lots to do about that for my own stories... but at least it seems you are having fun .
