Meet me and my personal Vulcan.I love Star Trek. I mean - I love it. It's the first fandom I've ever really been into. I've been a Trekker for almost twenty years now.
When I went to watch Into Darkness with *Ravenic , I just thought that the movie would probably not be that good. In the end I enjoyed it, although taking the best moments from an established fandom and plastering them together is not really an acceptable method of script-writing, the movie added nothing to the fandom and I love the old crew about a thousand times more than the new one (although it's a good re-cast and there's no one who totally sucks, but there's so much I'm just NOT ok with, I can't discuss that here) -- but the most remarkable thing about Into Darkness is that it has turned *Ravenic into a Star Trek fan.
I never would have guessed that. Never. I'm used to people disliking Star Trek. And suddenly there she is and she BREATHES it.
So after a week, she asked me if I would cosplay it with her.
I had to think about that for 24 hours. I never had to when it came to cosplay, but to be honest, these characters are somewhat holy to me. But she was just so damn happy when I agreed, it can't have been a bad decision.
So here I am, cosplaying William Shatner. I still don't know what to think of me XD
The next days, I'll bring you some Star Trek cosplay. Partly inspired by Into Darkness, for *Ravenic , partly from the original series, for me.

Ive been a fan of Star Trek fan for about the same amount of time as well 25 years given or take. Though no one has offered to cosplay with me I find myself drawn to it. Ive loved Spock and Kirk for as long as I can remember, I did have some issues with Into Darkness, though I love Zachary Quinton and Chris Pine. Its nice to see some good fans doing great cosplays. I love this photo very much. The action is deff something I could see the characters doing XD you guys look amazing.

I didn't love Into Darkness. It had some good moments, but I felt like they were just trying to reverse Wrath of Khan, which was a good idea up to a point, but it kind of broke down at the end. Like, the whole point of Kirk and Spock's relationship is that Spock keeps Kirk grounded, while Kirk reminds Spock that not everything in this life needs to be logical and mathematical. This is a big theme in most of the star trek movies, and was illustrated perfectly when Kirk had to watch Spock sacrifice himself to save the crew in Khan. But when the roles are reversed, and Kirk is the one to sacrifice himself, showing that he's learned Spock's lesson, Spock shows that all he's learned from Kirk is the worst, stupidest side of human emotion. I mean, the only reason Spock didn't kill Khan in the end is that they learn his blood is a magical potion that can heal absolutely anything, including death (which is dumb in a whole different way).
I'm sorry, whenever i try to talk about this I seem like i didn't like it, but it was pretty awesome. Although, Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan? I mean, I love him, and he made a fantastic villain, but who was the person who said to themselves, "Hmmm. Y'know who would be a good replacement for Ricardo Montalban? The palest, skinniest, britishiest guy on the planet!"
...Also, really good cosplay.

Urk. I'll admit it--Into the Darkness hooked me in, too, whereas my friend who asked me to go was the one who was the hardcore fan since ever. She's already cosplayed Spock by herself; I can only wonder what my future cosplays will end up being. xD

yeah, I know what you mean. I've been a startrek fan for as long as i can remember! and while the reboots have messed with the fandom a lot, I've enjoyed the new movies, despite they don't really beat the original movies. And in to darkness, a lot of playback from the original movies, including the most well known, star trek 2 scene ever, which has been flipped.
It also opens up a lot of questions too, since they have altered so much of the original timeline, does anything that comes after even exist? or does it now have its own canon universe? like the alternate 'shattered universe' where everyone is evil? I wish I knew!!

I loved the Into Darkness movie, and if you ask me the actors and director have done the characters and franchise justice. (Be glad you weren't next to me when Khan showed up...apparently I disturbed my mother.)
