Very beautiful. And haunting, in the right context. When I read the title, I couldn't help but think of "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe.
"Tis only this and nothing more.
Quoth the raven, 'Nevermore'."
In this context, it is a poignant reminder of what has been lost.

Thank you. Indeed quite haunting, if thought of in a certain way. It's strange; I never thought of a 'story' when painting this, it just sort of happened. But now that it's here, and it has this title, there's so many ways you could imagine the scene to go. I love your link to Edgar Allen Poe's poem 'The Raven'. Indeed a poignant reminder in this case.

Which species of beaked whale is this?

None in particular, it is a fantasy species. Although I did look to Grey's beaked whale for some inspiration on colouration and face shape.

What a cool creature! It's very believable as a real beaked whale species, and in my opinion, that what makes the best fantasy creatures. Those little glowing jellies are also very pretty! The shades of violet are very pleasant and give me a calm, but slightly eerie feeling.

Oh dear Justine it's you! I didn't know you also had this account - but that drawing of Granny was looking very familiar ; ) Anyway, thank you so much! Your comments are so nice. I'm happy to hear you think Mr Beaky looks believable. It was quite fun just making him up as I went along, grabbing features from different species. And I'm happy with how the colours turned out here too! I honestly just grabbed a colour and went with it. It turned into a rather wonderful departure from the usual blues and greens.

Hah, well, it's pretty worn by now and acts up from time to time, but overall it's still doing a good job! Lots of technology lasts way longer than most people actually keep it. Perfectly fine working stuff often gets thrown out in favour of a newer model. So with fancy new tablets on the market like the cintiq I can imagine people 'upgrading' to that, even if their old tablet is still ok.

This is cool and so unusual. It looks like some alien scene. Actually it reminds me of the Avatar universe! So shiny and colorful.

It really is kinda weird and outer space-y huh - maybe seeing so much of subnautica (if you don't know it, it's a pretty cool game based in an alien ocean with lots of glowy lifeforms) influenced me subconsciously haha. Oh and I definitely see the avatar similarities too! Actually, in terms of colours and bioluminescence the flora and fauna in subnautica is kind of the underwater counterpart of that in avatar. Gosh I loved that movie it was so incredibly pretty β₯

Not a cetacean expert by any means, but I love beaked whales, and I'm gonna guess that this is a beaked whale...Because I love beaked whales.

It was very (very) loosely based on a Gray's beaked whale
