Description To keep track of my ever growing collection of crochet hooks, I made an organizer to hold them all.
There are a few of the larger hooks missing... because one of them I lost on the bus the other day and another one was lost on my trip (I lost it on the plane ), so I will have to replace those two. Go me.

Anyway, I simply crocheted a long strip of plain old single crochet back and forth, sewed the bottom flap over and sewed the little compartments in. Then I sewed over the top flap and added a button. Easy to store, easy to transport, easy to find any size I need.
As usual, no pattern, just winged it.

The colorful part was left over yarn from the snake scarf I made, the rest is simple dark brown acrylic yarn.

I still need to make myself something similar. I keep buying hooks, but I need a good place to put them so I won't loose them!

MyntKat In reply to Anoya [2010-11-05 15:44:48 +0000 UTC]

Yup, they do pile up after a while. It's really easy to make though.

I haven't been into crochet that long yet, so I'm still considering myself a learner and I still work from patterns I've finished a few amigurumis, which I LOVE making!

My next mission is learning that magic ring, 'cause no matter how many times I watch youtube videos, I still haven't managed doing it

I might try making an organizer when I feel a bit more self assured about my crocheting

MyntKat In reply to Anoya [2010-11-05 15:54:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh, really? The magic ring is so easy once you get the hang of it. Maybe I should make a photo tutorial to explain it... hmm....
I only just started crochet this January myself, so I still consider myself a newbie too.

The organizer is so easy to make since you really just go back and forth in rows with single crochet, that's all it was.

I'd love to see a photo tutorial, maybe that would make it easier to understand, instead of moving subjects in short films

You changed colors, right? I think I can manage that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyntKat In reply to Anoya [2010-11-05 16:08:00 +0000 UTC]

I did change colors, but only because I ran out of the funky colorful yarn.

I shall see if I can whip up a tutorial in the next few days, shouldn't to too hard.

Hmmm I need one of these for my sculpting tools. And my pencils. And paintbrushes.

Do they come in industrial-sized? Hehehe

Since they are hand made, they can come in any size, really.

MyntKat In reply to Kirin-Rosenbaum [2010-10-27 01:34:18 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... it took quite a while to make, so I guess it would be around $45.

I learned it on youtube in January, it's really easy

Love the colors! I went out and just bought a leather one with a zipper, but it isn't big enough to hold my P and Q hooks. Making one like this would let you customize so those could fit. This might be something I attempt in the future.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyntKat In reply to SparklyDest [2010-10-26 16:58:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I saw a bunch of ready made ones, but I have such a mixed collection of hooks, they would have never all fit in them, so I figured customizing it is the way to go.

A murderous rampage... with... a blunt crochet hook? I'd like to see anyone actually achieve that.

It looks great!! I use something similar for my leatherworking tools.

Sorry you lost some of your hooks. Suprised they let them on the plane, though lol. I mean, they don't let bottles of water through security lol

Great work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyntKat In reply to dragoon811 [2010-10-26 08:36:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
But they're crochet hooks, why wouldn't they let them on the plane? It's not like they are sharp or anything. They're also not filled with water.
I'll go replace the hooks next chance I get, I usually buy the cheaper variety anyway

dragoon811 In reply to MyntKat [2010-10-26 09:06:35 +0000 UTC]

they choose the weirdest things to allow/not allow.

For example... you can't bring liquids through security, but you can purchase them afterwards...and take them on the plane. No knives, but the "higher-end" eateries still have metal ones. Heck, the plastic ones do damage. For that matter, they let through small #s of toiletries now.. what is to stop someone from putting in seperate containers stuff to mix like a laughing gas?

Knitting needles and crochet hooks - metal implements, could do alot of damage. Heck, if you think about it, large airports sell flowers in glass vases (I know O'Hare does).

So I am perpetually entertained that I cannot take a mini, one-inch swiss army knife aboard on my keyring, but Knitting Nancy can take two-foot long pointy metal things.

For that matter, some people can do just as much damage with belts, shoelaces, and pens (thank you NCIS for that one...good show.)

(I spent too long as a criminal justice major, I think lol)

Glad you can replace them, at least

Sorry for the rambling >_>.
