Description Geez, it's been a minute, huh?  August was super busy for me, but luckily I had some time this weekend to bust out another Mythos character!  Been wanting to draw Ganesha for a while!  He's a central figure in Hinduism; a benevolent patron of arts, sciences, wisdom and intellect, as well as the god of beginnings and a remover of obstacles.  In most Hindu sects, he is considered to be the son of Shiva and Parvati, and is worshiped in a variety of countries and cultures.  I always liked his character because he shows the power of compassion and wisdom!

You sure that's Ganesha and not Jumba Jookieba's great uncle? All jokes aside, this is another solid entry.

Ha, ha!  I forgot about that guy!  I guess they both kept their baby fat.  It must run in the family. Thank you, sir!

SO. AWESOME. I'd love to see a more "action" oriented version of this - something that would look more like a superhero or supervillain.

Thank you, sir! Oh, yeah!  That'd be pretty intense!  I kept him in kind of an idle stance since Ganesha's not the most active deity. He's more likely to be sitting and thinking (or eating candies) than running around wreaking havoc, but that would make a cool composition!

Yea, I agree. The design is so cool, I'd love to see a more comic-y and action-oriented type composition.

Would you think about doing Bakasura?

Thank you!  He was fun to design!  I based his overall aesthetic on the Shiva I drew a couple years ago.

Oh, that's a good idea!  I have considered him!  Time's getting tight again, though, so I'm not sure how many more of these I'll be able to do this year.  Hopefully somewhere down the line I can get to him!

Nice!  I kinda want to re-draw Shiva to make him seem a bit bigger and more intimidating, but I should probably work my way down the rest of the list first.

Ganesha is one of the deities that the metaphysical store I help manage always likes to have around. Statues, candles, or incense, we almost always have Ganesha in the place somewhere because quite frankly, he's great to have around. I'm partial to Hanuman myself when it comes to Hindu deities, but Ganesha is right up there, too.

But for all the Ganesha I've seen come through the store, nothing's look like this. Which is a compliment. The reason I love your Mythos series so much is that you always interpret these beings in new and exciting ways.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to johnnysugar [2017-09-04 21:15:47 +0000 UTC]

That's cool!  I can see why they'd want to have him around!  He's always visually striking and represents a lot of great qualities. Oh, Hanuman is great, too!  I actually was deciding between the two, but decided to go with Ganesha since I already drew Sun Wukong last time.  Didn't want him to seem too similar!

Wow, thank you, sir!  That's one of my favorite things about art--seeing how different people interpret the same idea.  It's fun to add a slight sci-fi angle to these characters, too; the more unconventional, the better!

Not very familiar with Hindu deities however, this makes me want to look up more about the subject. Only real exposure was from Asura's Wrath and I believe that doesn't count.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Aetostheronin [2017-09-04 21:10:00 +0000 UTC]

Ha, ha!  I suppose not, but the designs in that game were still amazing!  I think they ended up mixing a lot of different mythologies together, from all different parts of Asia.

Yeah, there are a lot of cool stories in Hindu mythology!  I need to look into it more, too. Ganesha's one of the more interesting characters, I always thought--according to some myths, Shiva wanted to "be intimate" with his wife, Parvati, but she had to take care of their baby.  In anger, Shiva chopped his head off.  As you can guess, Parvati was not happy about that, so Shiva hastily slapped an elephant's head on him and called it a day.  He won't be getting any "#1 Dad" coffee mugs for Father's Day, that's for sure.

Aetostheronin In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2017-09-04 22:52:57 +0000 UTC]

It really was a beautiful game, the visuals alone got me to play it and the campaign was very engrossing. Not just the obvious religious influences, but just wanting to see how it would end.

That is certainty one way to make someone take the hint that it's not the time for intimacy. Reminds me of certain stories in Greek mythology involving the Gods.

Oh those divine beings always taking things to the extreme on how to deal with things. Crazy scamps. X-D

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Aetostheronin [2017-09-10 06:04:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah!  I actually never played it myself, but watched my brother play it.  Some of the scenes were so over the top that they were genius! I really liked that final boss battle, too, which starts out in space as the boss is throwing entire planets at you!  Then it goes to that strange fight in a blank, grey void--very visually stunning!

Ha, ha!  Yeah, what a bunch of crazy kids.  Seems like deities in general from a lot of cultures are kinda just jerks, especially when they're "in the mood".  Zeus was particularly notorious for that!

Aetostheronin In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2017-09-10 06:52:18 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely a game for anyone who enjoys mythos, amazing action scenes and some creative boss battles.

Yep especially in the case of how Venus was created, how if you do something for mortals you get punished and just messing with people's lives in general to make a simple trip to the store into a grand battle with a legendary beast or more if the gods are bored enough.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to Aetostheronin [2017-09-16 03:41:46 +0000 UTC]

Definitely!  The scene with the sword going through the moon?  It's all the right kinds of crazy.

Oh, yeah!  We are definitely playthings in their eyes.  And the gods that genuinely do seem to care are never in charge.  Just ask poor Prometheus...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aetostheronin In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2017-09-16 05:22:45 +0000 UTC]

That and the final fight between Asura and Wyzen. Guy turned bigger than the planet itself. Asura just basically said bring it on. =-O

Yeah Prometheus got it bad just like Tantalus, Erysichthon, and Hera to name a few.

m.ranker.com/list/worst-punish…

Which reminds me in the case of Erysichthon the punishment is similar to certain Yokai know as Jikininki or Human eating ghost. Look it up on this website if you're interested.
