Description This is Tsuru, my equisona, inspired by the lovely oriental cranes. While Tsuru is not a Denki-horse, she knows the clan and visits them on her travels.

Took me two evenings of working with Paint Shop Pro, but I finally got this mare to the point where I will call her finished for now. This image was built in two separate files with a total of 12 layers to get the effect I wanted.

Very pretty, and nice, unique markings! Did you use a "noise" filter for the painting? 12 layers isn't unusual for a painting, though a little irritating when you're trying to keep track of what goes where.

Thankies! I didn't use "noise" -- I haven't tried many filters on my pictures yet. I did use the airbrush tool set to low opacity and coarse spray with the coverage turned down.

The eight layers in one file made for a slow save; I ended up making a copy with the layers flattened so I could add more without slowing the system down too much.

Yeah, I've crashed more than once on large files. The airbrush tool is one I very rarely use. You did well with it here.

The airbrush has been my friend - that's what I use on the manga when I want those touches of color. I may still have my "real" airbrush in my closet somewhere -- I never got good at it, because I needed to buy a proper compressor and never had the money for it way back when. Digital airbrush is more forgiving, and there is the Undo command.

Really? I thought you were using the standard brush with a bit of transparency to the layer.

Nope, it is pretty much the airbrush tool and then I use the eraser to touch it up and remove overspray. Also I'm using the select tool to mask areas I don't want to spray-paint. I do have the transparency set up pretty high, so I can get an ethereal effect.

IN-teresting... I shall take another look at the airbrush for those three WiPs.

I just love high contrast and black and white is about as high contrast as we can get.

Love the markings! very individual. and the graininess of the shading works really well.
My only suggestion is that the back hoof should be angled down a little so it's level with the floor. She'd appear more stable then, kinda looks like she's slipping now. But other than that, great

Thank you much. Still working on digital coloring skills, I've got a lot to learn.

Which back hoof should be angled? The near (right) hoof is reaching forward and hasn't quite touched down. Not terribly obvious given the background and shadowing on the "ground".

Oh the one in the air is fine; the one thats firmly on the ground should be angled, like it's the one supporting the weight (which it is )
Like the hoof in this picture [link]
see the bottom is flat to the ground, keeping it stable. Just a slight tilt of that 'ankle' joint should do it!

Yes, from that angle, the hoof should definitely be flat.
