Ohhh, pretty! I would not guess what it is because just by the color you cant determine the compound, but certain things like permanganate solutions have distinct colors.

It's something we use to distinguish between aldehydes and ketones.

How does it work?

You add the Benedict's to the aldehyde and ketone solution and then heat it, if there is an aldehyde present the Benedict's turns red and if a ketone is present it remains blue.

So it is an indicator that indicates functional groups rather than pH? Sounds swell.

Yes, it is an indicator for functional groups.

hey,
we're about to make a newspaper for our abitur-year (some like final exams or a-levels, just a german version, after 13 years of school) and i would like to ask if we could maybe use your picture in the background of the article of the chemistry courses.
your name would be put right next to your picture and your deviantart-url would be named in the linklist. also, if you want, we would send to you a pdf-version of the article with your picture in.
it would be great if we could use your picture, but sadly we aren't able to pay anything for it, because it's a newspaper from students for students - so there's no money anywhere.
greetings from germany
