Description
When: April 15, 2018
Where: Zoo Duisburg, Germany
The Dik-Diks hadn't shown themselves on our first visit this year, and we were afraid they might not be at the zoo at all. Our second visit, M noticed the plaque saying they share the enclosure with the Koritrap - she didn't know they were at the zoo, never mind supposed to be there - when, lo and behold, the two Dik-Diks were actually outside and showing themselves beautifully
Species: Kirk’s Dik-Dik (Kirks Dikdik)
Latin name: Madoqua Kirkii
Originates from eastern and southwestern Africa.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
… The Kirk’s Dik-dik hooves have rubbery undersides, so they can effectively travel over rocky terrain.
… Behavioral studies suggests these small ungulates are monogamous.
