Description Perhaps the greatest part about shooting at night is when you come up with something that you really love. When I first started working on this shot, I could not get things to work as I had hoped. My battery was low, the tripod was on un-even ground and I wasn't sure on the exposure.

Finally, after working on it for a significant amount of time and with some help from *svarci I was able to finally stitch these three vertical pieces together correctly to form a 6932 x 3876 pixel image. I used the border here to correct it to 3:2 format for viewing.

This is similar to another shot of mine, [link] , which was based on the night work of Jeff Brouws. Thanks to ~maxiumas (Brent) and ~sunken-waltz (Luke) for the night out.

Please enjoy, and check out the rest of my gallery if you have time.

Thanks. Yes the 'L's are very nice. I've just obtained a new EOS 1d Mk3 body so they will complement that camera very nicely.

Thanks once again. I am glad you like it. I was quite happy with this one. During the summer I might try a similar shot at dusk and really try to bring the sky colours into it.

Hey,

Firstly, thanks very much for the kind comment. With regard to the stitching of photo's, may I ask what program you are using?

It might also be helpful to explain how you are setting up your shots when you attempt this. I assume you are using a tripod?

Anyway I'd be more than glad to help out.

visionsandvoices In reply to monteycarlos [2007-08-22 02:50:14 +0000 UTC]

I don't even know what program to use...
just mainly with real wide landscapes, and yeah I use a tripod

monteycarlos In reply to visionsandvoices [2007-08-22 03:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Ok. Cool!

Basically, there is a program called Autostitch which was made by a university (I think British Columbia by memory) which although quite rudimentary, is excellent. It is not much to look at, and a little bit complex (I don't understand half the settings but its results are very, very good. It is the basis for many of the commercial stitching programs like AutoPano which costs a fair bit. This one is freeware so its good. I suggest you look it up on google and go through the website. That is what I use.

The readme file attached to the download will assist you in changing the settings to suit your purpose. I basically just change the orientation (as my stitches are mostly portrait) and the size (it defaults to 25% of original size - I choose 100%). It takes quite a while to complete the stitch but as I said, the results are great.

Let me know how you go with it.

monteycarlos In reply to visionsandvoices [2007-08-22 05:12:52 +0000 UTC]

Which one?

There is a trial version of autopano which might work as well. I haven't had much luck with it, but you might.
