wow, i'm just impressed with the sheer variety you came up with doing the diff test renders. were they pretty much all the same hdr image? or were you moving and playing with the the levels to get the diff effects? love the way the bump maps (great textures by the way) pop out from test to test.
i've been using hdr to light most of my renders. i use maya w/ mental ray. not the easiest renderer to control. i'm self taught, but it seems like HDR is pretty much guess and check... is it easier to control in vray or brazil?
be great if you could check out my stuff (i'm new here, so there's not a whole lot...)
again, very cool renders.
like the cars too nice compositing.

No, actually I used different hdri image for each render, after played with brightness etc. in photoshop. It was meant for hdrimaps.com to show different hdri's they're selling there. Hardest part was playing with hdri's setting to get somewhat real result.
Hum, I guess using hdri is the same, no matter what renderer you use, some of them have more convenient controls, than others... I used Vray btw.
Nice renders you got there. Testarossa looks good, except that it seems it has too low anount of polys (hood for example). If it had more polys, reflection would be much smoother. But model itself is very good!

celmer In reply to mmarti [2005-01-15 18:41:26 +0000 UTC]

hey, thanks for the reply. wow, considering they were all diff maps, you got a pretty consistent "real" feel. as opposed to my testarossa, where the reflections and colors make it seem almost stylized. it's the one thing i don't like about that render: it's looks almost cartoonish.
i forget how many polys there actaully where... but the hood area (moving from the scoop area to the headlights and grill) was a big pain. fun challenge tho

so you opened the model of the terminator head and just applied a HDRI? I mean yes it looks great can't say something else but ... hmm if you're so good with lightning make your own scene next time ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

mmarti In reply to LordReaver [2004-11-06 10:42:14 +0000 UTC]

Hehe... no problem... I just read it and wondered what did you mean by "make your own scene next time"...
Yes, I modeled it first - I never use models I didn't make myself...

LordReaver In reply to mmarti [2004-11-06 12:08:40 +0000 UTC]

1. good to hear
2. You don't need to use models from other persons cause yours are perfect ...

So yea

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to LordReaver [2004-11-06 12:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Hehe... as for perfection, I like what Salvador Dali said: "Don't be afraid of perfection, you're never going to reach it..." So, it's always possible to get better...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LordReaver In reply to mmarti [2004-11-06 13:30:22 +0000 UTC]

Yep nice quote ^^ and Einstein is right again ... cause perfection is relative, too ... for me this is perfect atm but for hmm I donno who this could be "normal" or whatever ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to LordReaver [2004-11-06 18:42:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'd rather say a little bit above normal...

Yes they do wonders.. although it's not that easy, they require some testrendering too, to find optimal lighting conditions...

GOD why doesn't anybody post wires on devart?! That's a great model, definitely one of the best I've seen on here so far, and the textures are awesome, you really capture that worn metallic look really well. Are these images you took yourself or stock HDRI? You HAVE to link to some wires, I wanna know how much of that is modelled and how much is surfaced. Is the texture different on the bottom left one? There's that little black star (I love that song) inside the circle on his forehead and some other details added... The second from the right on the bottom seems to have some details changed too... I wish I had some idea what you guys are talking about with all these renderers and stuff, haha, I use Lightwave so it's the stock renderer and FPrime for me. Awesome for HDRI, by the way. I have no idea how people can do models like this in 3DS, I've only used it a tiny little bit but it seems really wierd for modelling. Anyway, good job.

mmarti In reply to KissMyGrits [2004-11-01 22:11:40 +0000 UTC]

They, thanks for such a thorough comment!
Actually all that modeling stuff is easy... When I tried to model in LW I felt kinda wierd, so it is normal, I gues...

As for HDRI-s - they're stock hdri images. I don't have decent camera to do good hdri's myself...

Btw, I do have a wireframe here, at DA. Here it is [link]
