Description Cheng Pei Pei from the Shaw Brothers classic Come Drink with Me.
I've drawn her once before and after watching this movie recently I thought it would be nice to draw her again. I'm a huge fan and I love watching these old school kungfu swordplay woman warrior movies!
I chose this ref pic because I wanted to have a go at doing a full background. Most of my previous drawings with backgrounds are mainly indoors so it was interesting to do this outside setting with all the green forest areas, mountains and clouds.
I needed another break from pen drawings so this drawing is mainly all color pencil. I used a black biro pen for the dark areas but I didn't go too dark as I wanted it to blend well with the color pencil. I like the textured look color pencil gives so that was what I was trying to show in this drawing.
I'm guessing this will be my last drawing of 2008. I might still be able to start a new drawing but I doubt I would finish it this year!

A4 size paper.
Color pencil and a black biro pen.
Completed in just over a month. I think Ken must have completed 3 or 4 drawings while I was doing this one!

Man you have a lot of nice drawings of old school kung fu people. Great job! I love the old movies the best!

Cheng Pei Pei has a unique beauty. Golden Swallow was my fave movie with her, Lo Lieh and Wang Yu.

You are right she does have a unique beauty. I love to draw her so chances are I'll draw her again later on!

I've seen quite a few... I've been watching a lot of Chang Cheh and old-school wuxia films lately...

And from time to time, some old ATV series with Wei Pai pops up on youku or tudou... Well, those are usually not exactly *excellent*, but we, Wei Pai completists, consider that an insignificant detail...

Yeah the colors were what attracted me to having a go at this drawing. It was just the sort of thing for me to practice blending with colors.

Happy you like it because this really pushed me to the limit! I was sick of seeing this drawing in wip stage and it looked like I would never finish it! Seeing the background I thought to myself how do I do this?
Still it was kind of funny seeing myself struggle while Ken raced through portrait after portrait!

Well, we can't go comparing with Ken's speed. He's like Formula 1.

The background is probably my fave part of this drawing, cause you don't do a lot of these. It's so detailed and the colours are amazing. This is still your unique style and at the same time something new you tried, which is always a good thing. This is one of the best drawings I've seen in a long time. I always love the refs you choose. You're like a master at this.

I'm happy you like the background Aya! Yeah I don't do backgrounds much, only really do them once in a while cos they are so time consuming.
Actually I do remember a while ago Ken telling me I should draw this ref pic but I never thought I would do so!
