Description
Here is a pencil drawing of RnB soul artist Alicia Keys. Proportions were very difficult because of the size of the face. I never use a grid so all facial features were measured by hand.A3 size paper.
Took almost 3 weeks to complete.

Well it looked good at the time but when I look back at it I see many mistakes. I would like to redraw her if I get the opportunity.

Thanks! I don't quite remember exactly which pencils I used as I haven't used pencils for a long time. I think they were HB, 2B and maybe a 4B.

Thanks! I decided to check out your drawing and I have to disagree with you! I think the detail and shading looks better on your drawing, amazing that you did it in 4 hours! Took me almost 3 weeks! The ref photo I used was really close up, later I discovered there was more of her head in another version of the same photo which showed more! But I guess we were both doing the same photo but alittle differently! I was going for the huge face while in your drawing I notice her hair really stands out just as much as her face! Great job on your drawing!

Naw, yours is so smooooooth, such perfect lines! I am in awe of her juicy lips, I just don't know how you made them look so wet with pencil!! Well done. I just love it! Mine's too sketchy, I think, because I gave up when doing her hair LOL Yeah, if you check my reference photo (link in the description) you'll see it's her whole head and neck. If I was smart I'd have just done her face, big like you did, to avoid those braids

A lot of style in this one (I've seen loads of Alicia Keys portraits that look like b&w photographs, but this one has a stronger effect, to me (graphically perfect).

Thanks Pauline! I don't see much really huge portraits of a face which is what I was trying here. I wanted to fill the whole A3 sheet with her face to see if I could capture her likeness. It was hard, alot of drawing and than standing from a distance to check if proportions were close or not!
