"The station wheels turn all throughout the year, keeping the outer ring at comfortable one g. We only stop them for a week, usually around Hearth's Warming Eve."
"What for?"
"Maintenance. Everypony drops everything nonessential, and start checking all the systems - one by one. It's easier to do in zero-g, especially for us earth ponies."
"You check the whole thing in just a week?"
"Yep. About forty miles of hallways, and almost three times as much in service tunnels. Plus all the ventilation shafts."
"That sounds like a lot of work, especially during the holidays."
"There's a lot of us. The company even hires ponies from other stations. Still, we usually work double shifts, plus overtime when we're behind the schedule. But the payment is worth it."
"It should be."
"Plus, nothing beats the feeling when we're done. When the wheel starts turning again, and you can walk the pristine white halls again, listening to the quiet hum of machinery in the walls, looking at the stars... that's really magical."
