I love this scene between a girl, secretly in love and the innocent boy that has no clue to her feelings and is at ease with her blushing.

Eight hours, give or take.

No, it's not. It's not like that's from start to finish, or "just" the animations - I spent a lot of time moving stuff around and thinking about composition, adjusting the background and so on. Animating the still SVG took me about two hours, and a half of that was animating the right pony's goatee. I already have a mouth system, but animating facial hair is more tedious. Eight hours with all that is actually reasonably fast.

Eh, I didn't mean to sound harsh. Like I said - I just think people should be more willing to spend time on things that they want to turn out well. Too often I see reasonable talent squandered on interesting projects because the person doesn't sacrifice enough time, and runs away before they can see any real results. Everything good takes effort.

I don't. But I might make one later. It's not like it's terribly hard. You just have to think a bit.

This kinda reminds me of those classic video games...the ones where there's no voicework with the characters, yet you can see them talking to each other...sorta like this.

I could make a pop-up window with text that comes up and churns along as the characters talk for something that would make sense. Like a computer game related commission. Otherwise, it'd just break immersion.

Perhaps. But a multiframe lip sync looks way more realistic than a single frame and you did it very well. I did a year of flash animation in school (of which my work is rather sloppy). But I desperately want to get back into it. I've been practicing my art and music to help prepare me for when I have time to actually sit down and work on animating.

I see, I see. I love Flash. It still follows the traditional frame by frame animation style. It's rather difficult but if you master it's capabilities, then the possibilities are endless! I have a ways to go obviously. Although I am a scientist, cartooning is near and dear to my heart.

And I dislike flash much for the same reasons. It still follows the traditional frame by frame animation style, making it fixed and unreliable, and creating an arbitrary restriction on the creativity of the artist. The technology is flimsy and old, and closed off. It follows no logical set of recommendations and has absolutely no natural compatibility with any browser, forcing you to get a clunky plugin to even make it work in web environment. It is popular because of its tools, but they are tools made for people with no desire to actually understand what they are doing. They give you dozens of slightly different applications of the same principles (this filter, this filter AND that filter, in reverse order) which swamps any new user with an array of useless tripe.
I don't dismiss the use of Flash for modern animation. At least it has tools. But I think it has no place in modern web environment.

VinnyMartello In reply to MisterAibo [2014-09-16 16:55:44 +0000 UTC]
Traditional animation to the modern way is no different that the horse and buggy to the car. Although the car can outperform a horse any day of the week, you just can't do some things in a car you can do on a horse. Flash is somewhat of a horseless carriage. It is the early car - something worth appreciating and used by those who love both traditional and modern. Knowing how to use Flash properly is why My Little Pony looks as good as it does. The whole series is done entirely in Flash.
The only thing that restricts the creativity of the artist is the artist himself. If it were not so, we would have burned pencils and paper in a great fire a long time ago.
