No need to point out the mistakes in this one, I see enough of them already. And I should have done her hair more seriously, but I was so sick of this drawing, that if I didn't do it as quickly as I could like that, I'd never finish it.

Yes, all pencil ^^
I use Staedtler pencils, the 8B there is perfecly black, as black as any pencil will get without being coal. There's hardly any reflections in it, and yet it's not difficult to work with like coal. It's like normal pencils, just very very black, and almost impossible to erase

I felt that I had to make the background black, or else the girl would look too dark on the white paper...

A lot of people make the mistake of leaving the background empty, and the result is just not that effective. This black background allows for a decent figure ground interchange. It did not have to be pure black but it works as if she was in a pitch black studio with light being cast on her from a strong artificial light source.
