Description Adapted from an old pattern found in a vintage bead magazine, this was one of the ornaments I made for the 2006 holidays. Crochet thread with various sized glass beads.

Sorry for the less than terrific picture. This was taken before I bought my "good" digital camera. Unfortunately, I no longer have the ornament, either, so a better picture is not possible.

Fantastic! Hey, you gotta start somewhere. I still have the very first thing I ever crocheted. My grandma taught me to make granny squares. Once I made a huge pile of them, she showed me how to stitch them together to make an afghan. That's all I knew how to make until I finally started understanding written instructions.

Naw, you shouldn't have too many problems with written instructions. You have to remember that I was 10 years old when my grandma taught me how to crochet. And I had the attention span of a ten year old. So it took me a while to understand written instructions because I couldn't pay attention long enough. Try it. If you have any problems, let me know and I'll try to help you.

Finals are almost over, though. Pretty soon! Hang in there! And that's really nice of your Mom to help out like that! Mine doesn't crochet, so I'm on my own with the really big projects.

Hurray! You're done! Now you can kind of relax, at least for a little while. When are you leaving to visit grandma?

It really is festive! It's a mix between a snow flake and a bauble. Did you give the ornament away...or did one of the prize judges keep it?

The ornament went to my aunt and uncle who always marvel over my crafts. They appreciate my handiwork more so than any of my other relatives (save for my parents and Grandma), so every year I make at least one handmade ornament or decoration for their Christmas.

Yes..which means they also ask for more and more to be made!! Sometimes, because you realise how much they cherish the item, you want to make more for them

True... I try to map out what I'm going to be making for specific people for Christmas and I get very disappointed with myself if I'm not able to meet my own expectations. I'm still extremely angry with myself for not being able to finish my friend Sharon's Christmas gift from last year, yet. And now I have to finish her birthday gift, which is late, as well. And, my friend Jen's Rufus doll is now late because I really wanted to make him for her birthday this year, but I just haven't had enough time to even get to him yet. I know I put too much pressure on myself for these things, but I can't seem to help it.

Yes. Sometimes people do not realise the difficulty of the high standards that have been reached. They think it's a breeze for us! So how far into the progress are you with your friend's Christmas gift? I think it's because you are a generous person!

I'm hoping to finish it on Sunday night. I'm planning on taking it with me when I go to dinner with my Mom. Then, I can work on it at my parent's house because they have a nice kitchen counter and better lighting for me to work at. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can finally get it done.

The aunt I gave this to brings out this one and the other ornaments I've made for her and puts them on her tree every year.

jestercat In reply to minami63 [2007-12-05 00:53:20 +0000 UTC]

That's wonderful, I'd feel honoured.

I remember in Elementary we made ornaments, typical ones made out of marshmallows and stuff...oh and reindeer and such. Typical crafts, they're on the tree every year. It's those ornaments though that hold more value then your typical storebought ones

minami63 In reply to jestercat [2007-12-05 00:58:01 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! And that's why that particular aunt gets at least one very special handmade ornament from me each year, because she and my uncle really do appreciate them.

It's a good thing I kept pictures of a lot of the crafts I made in the past, so that can post theme here and share them with everyone, too. I'm not going to have too many new things to post this holiday season because my gifts are more time consuming than I anticipated.

Wow, that's so pretty and unique. I can't really tell, but is the crochet and bead part a cover for a regular glass ornament, or is the ball something else entirely? But anyway, what a neat gift idea!! You could create a beautiful tree with stuff like this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

minami63 In reply to bluechimeraz [2007-12-03 17:16:09 +0000 UTC]

It's a lousy picture. I was having trouble with my old camera at the time, which is why I bought a new one not long afterward. Yes, the crochet and beads are covering a plain glass ball. I have an aunt and uncle that I make a fancy ornament for each year, so this was the ornament for 2006. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting a few other ornaments that I kept pictures of.

Thank you! The original pattern called for more beads and less crochet, so I altered it to be the other way around with the exception of the fringe.
