Description Oh my giddy aunt, I made fanart. o_o

How many of you are cool enough to know who this is? Raise your hands! ...Well, there's me, and... maybe Zhe. Hm. We shall see.

Lord Maliss is the villain of the 1993 animated movie "Happily Ever After", and is possibly the only reason I can stand watching it now XD Course, I'd grown up watching this movie and, as with many childhood movies, you go back and watch it again as a young adult and fall over laughing at how corny it actually is, or how bad the animation can get. I just finished watching this one, for the sake of finding good screenshots of Maliss, and I was giggling at stuff all the way through. BUT, I'll admit that Maliss makes an awkward children's movie worth staring at for an hour and a half of your life.

First off, there's his introduction into the Snow White story. He bursts into the wicked queen's castle, interrupting the frolicking henchbeasts, and demands right off the bat, "Where is my sister?" When he finds out she's dead he throws a fit, and when he figures out his beloved sis met her doom while trying to get rid of Snow White, he vows to finish the job. And boy, does he ever try. So, you see, the guy's not much more than a loyal brother in grief. Whoo! ...Although, given the fact that HE'S EEEVUHL, it could be argued that he was visiting his sister with the plan to kill her and take over her lands the hard way, and that he's angry enough with Snow White for beating him to it, so he plots to destroy her for something to do. XD This makes him a more complex character; now that I've entertained the possibility of his wanting to kill his sister, I'm not sure what to think anymore X3

Secondly, he's plainly psychotic. Like any token bad guy, he tortures his minions, sics rabid dogs on his prey, and slaps and pulls hair in fights against female protagonists. As if we needed any more proof, Malcolm McDowell does this tremedous job of cackling and chuckling and exhaling sinister laughing noises throughout the movie. Oh, and he rolls every other R, too. It's a real treat.

Thirdly, getting into the more technical stuff, Maliss is the most well-animated character in the whole movie. Don't try to argue with me! I know it! He easily has the widest range of facial expressions, when you compare his scenes with Snow White's constantly looped animations (I'm not kidding; they put her on loops even when that particular expression is inappropriate for the scene!). He grins, he growls, he pouts, he shrieks, he widens his eyes drastically, he throws back his head to show off his suddenly-existing fangs! None of the other characters are so... well, ANIMATED. I mean, come ON.

Annnnnd fourthly: HE CAN TURN INTO A DRAGON. Instant win.

Done in Photoshit using a screencap for reference (from a scene where he's turning towards the audience snarling, "I'll handle this perrrrsonally!"). About two hours. Some Russian waltz music. The usual.

Lord Maliss is, sadly, NOT mine. He belongs to Twentieth Century Fox. May their animation department rest in peace. ;_;

This is awesome! And your description of Lord Maliss is perfect lol. I can definitely get on board with your theory that he was coming to kill his sister, totally makes sense (I mean, I can't really see him coming over for a little weekend stay. They don't seem like that kind of family haha).

lord Maliss was so evil and creepy, i was scared of him as a child when i first saw this. he really had no regards for personal space with snow white and had his mind set on taunting her through manipulating her beloved and Β trying to turn her into a stoneΒ .Β  I always liked his stylish mustache and perfect black hair when i got into my pre teens Β

OH MY GOODNESS did Lord Maliss scare me.....and I watched this for the first time during the summer. For a not so great movie, he is one superior bad guy. The first time he turned into a dragon really freaked me out. And I agree, he has a very complex personality and is animated really well, unlike Snow White....uhg. I think they ripped off some other movies when they animated her, I mean change her hair colour to orange and she's thumbalina, and sometimes I swear that I've seen thumbalina make the same expressions she does.

I love your review on Lord Maliss. I used to rent this movie from my town library when I was a kid. Now that I'm older, I have the DVD, and I think it's kinda dumb, but I'll only watch it, just to see Malcolm McDowell's character. (I mean, it's Alex DeLarge from 'Clockwork Orange' in a cruddy Disney-like movie!!)

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I can never get over his female secret agent spy boots that reach his thighs. Also added to his amazing animation he also has amusing random yells in his sentances, who couldn't love this villian.

LOVE THIS!

Am I the only one who thought this was a direct sequel to the Disney movie back when they were a youngin? I totally thought it was! I kept asking "Why is Snow White's hair long? Why is she wearing a blue and purple dress? Why is her voice deep? Why is the Prince a red-head? I don't remember Scowl and Batso in the original? That's not what the Wicked Queen looked like in the original?? That's not what the Magic Mirror looked like in the original!? What gives!!!!???"

It was because of those things that caused me to be fascinated with this film to this day, because I keep hearing that it's supposed to be a direct sequel to the Disney one but in so many ways it can't possibly be! LOL! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Oh my God! Someone remembers this movie!

For some reason my sister hated this villain and used to want to see Jafar beat the crap out of him...actually my sister used to think Jafar could beat the crap out of everybody when she was 9.

Ah, the glory of childhood.

So I totally just searched 'happily ever after movie' just to see if anyone remembered this- I'm so glad that I'm not the only one!

I used to watch this movie, like, every day as a kid. Then it mysteriously 'disappeared.'

Turns out my sister threw it out while I was at school. T.T

Looking back, I think the only redeeming feature was that one song Thunderella sings.

Evilness321 [2009-05-24 08:18:45 +0000 UTC]

I wonder if madness ran in their family or something. But yes, Maliss is one hundred times better than the Wicked Queen. Sure, she used black magic to poison the apple, but... dragons and LASER EYES! He got the better end of the deal. Maliss would have EASILY finished off the Wicked Queen had Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs not finished her off.

And I still have my video tape copy of that movie, both of them, and they... still run! OMG!

OMG!! This was THE movie of my childhood. And you captured the revisitation of this film completely. In my younger years, 5 years old i think, I thought this movie was epic!! like LOTR epic!! then, after it has evaded my recollection fro so long, i suddenly happened across it and watched it. Oh my god... it was awful... the story was thrown together, barely at that, it had singing, but the songs were completely.. well... atrocious, the animation was awful, the dialogue crappy. And I loved every minute of it.

Subconsciously, i took on a lot of lord maliss's traits. I love draguns, collect them, want one, want to be one. My favorite move in final fantasy tactics is turning people to stone, and I actually have an RP character based off of him.. before i even realized it. He is deep inside my brain!! >.< Fantastic job by the way, you captured lord maliss' malice perfectly ^^

Oooh, I was totally surprised to see this! ^_^ Bee-YOO-tiful picture of Lord Maliss! Excellent! Marvelous! I never watched this movie as a kid (though I'd heard of it), but a year or two ago, I bought the DVD, & I happen to enjoy the film quite a bit. I don't pay so much attention to the animation, though; I usually just focus on the scripting, the songs, the characters, & the casting, which I think they did a very great job at. Especially for picking my hero Malcy (whom I was honored to have met personally back in February--it's a very long story ) to play his first animated role--none other than Lord Maliss! 'Cause nobody can play a villain like Lord Maliss better than Malcy, baby! And I agree; Lord Maliss is a super-awesome villain in soooo many ways. Ah, enough rambling; anyway, fantastic work! ^_^ Kudos!

P.S. I have a feeling that if Malcy saw this picture, he would be very fond of it. ^_^

I loved that movie when I was a girl, too. And you're right, Maliss is the only reason I watch it anymore. What can I say? I Malcolm MacDowell. I wonder if I would have taken A Clockwork Orange as seriously if I had known Alex eventually grew up to be the effeminate green-skinned villain from my favorite childhood film. Haha. Anyway, nice work. This is a perfect example of a cartoon where the fanart is better than the animation.
