Description Will our character fly into history books as a first cat in space and Hero of Nation, or become another victim sacrificed in mad scientific experiment?

A work inspired by very interesting Japanese anime "Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise" (1987)... and David Bowie's song "Space Oddity"

It was one of inspirations (with original anime, too).

Personally, I think space travel is one of our greatest accomplishments, and an inspiration as such. You know this one? [link]

Glad you liked it!

Often, when I feel down or loose hope, films like this re-assure me that humans are capable of great things, and that's what I want to work for. The launch sequences from Apollo 13 or Armageddon are also very special to me, very well composed to say the least.

Why? It's one of humanity's greatest achievements after all.

Not in my eyes. all thats out there is a silent vacuum which is hazardous to travel though. theres nothing to space travel except national pride/stature.

A silent vacuum which happens to be our universe, with so much to explore that it is as baffling as it is seemingly endless. From distant galaxies to traces of the big bang, I'd say there is quite a lot to be explored there. While it is true that it was the race with the Soviets that made much of it happen, it is still just baffling how fast humanity has advanced. The Wright brothers undertook the first powered, sustained heavier-than-air flight in 1903, and in 1969, humans were the first species of earth to set foot upon another celestial body. Compared to the age of the earth, that was an amount of time too small to be measured... To me, that is a simply unbelievable and unparalleled achievement.

If you ask me, we were put on this planet for a reason, and its here that we will stay.

I don't think we were "put" anywhere, we just got lucky to have evolved to what we are now.

Even if we might not get away here in the short run, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't explore everything and do everything in our power to increase our knowledge, be it about small things like subatomic particles (LHC ftw) and big things like the universe. It's our ingenuity and curiosity that got us to where we are now, and all of it thanks to research. It gives us longer and safer lives, allows us to communicate despite being half a world away from each other, and in the long run, will expand our horizon a great deal. There is probably no clearer way of doing that than by reaching for the stars.

If you are so intent on that, kindly leave me out of it. The only thing I want to do when I see a manned rocket taking off is to shoot it down.

And if you ask me, the LHC was the largest waste of money in human history. whats more, it will probably never do what it was built to do. There are some things we are not meant to know. Ignorance is safety in this case, much like how we would have been better off if nuclear power was never discovered

That part about wanting to shoot down a manned rocket sounds a bit very harsh, don't you think? Why would you want to do that?

I don't think there is anything that we shouldn't know, and whether the LHC will produce results is still to be seen. Condemning it before we even know what it's capable of doesn't sound like the best idea. I actually visited it once, went down there before it was completed, and was simply mesmerized by so many nations working together, building the world's largest machine so we can understand some of matter's most fundamental principles. The world is so full of secrets that are waiting to be discovered, not doing that is like saying we'd be better off living in caves, ignorant of how everything works around us or inside us.
