The colours on this are fantastic, and I love how you did the little lanterns! I have to admit, I have a special liking for this one as it's my zodiac sign. But I really do like your style.

I know what you mean - I always liked the Ox signs myself; found them very impressive for some reason. You're very welcome! I know what you mean, the snake has a rough time with that... I always wondered why they never had legs. Β
You're very welcome!Β

M....Maybe it's because it sort of looks like a super buff ram XD? Ox zodiac carvings are often carved quite nicely and clear c:. Zodiac dragon carvings are often a bit confusing, it took me years to figure out where the tail was on the little carving at the end of my stamp XD.Β
I'd like to think they where once a group of dragons that misbehaved and Mother Nature got so sick of their bullshit one day that she took all their most useful but not nessery bits off them and shrank them . (But it's more likely eviloution just figured they didn't need them XD.)

XD A super buff ram? I'd never thought about it like that before, but now that you mention it, I do have to agree with you there! I must admit that the poor dragons do look a little bit squished sometimes in carvings.Β
Oooh, you know, that's quite a good idea, and it sounds likely, too.

Hehe .Β
They really do, it has meant the carvings have a cool stylisation because of it but it dose come out of them being squished up to fit XD.Β
Well you and me can hope that's how it happened .Β

Β
I've always loved the style of those carvings. I've often wondered why they picked those particular animals, as well, and why the Western zodiac didn't really take a step in that direction.Β
I think we can! It's the best idea.

Me too, especially on things like the guardian lions.
Well there is a Celtic zodiacs but they are not well known, I don't know what they're about and I prefer the Chinese one.

I don't really know but there is a cute mythological story behind the Chinese zodiac involving a emperor and race between the animals but who knows.
Chances are they where simply just the 12 most important animals in the ancient Chinese people lives. Most are animals that are a involed in farming, crops and cattle or they can kill on the job or eat your stock. So maybe the fortune in people's lives would of literally depended on these animals, even the dragon who is basically the rivers and rain... that's my thoughts on why anyway. I've never found anything on the definite real reason but I know they're very old ideas and this would make sense .

Love love love his attitude. "You mess with the Ram, you get the Chinese lanterns" as the saying goes.
