Description Origin

A military project of Babel. Somakeras were originaly created to face off tank, with more agility and less predictability. Officialy, Somakeras are rhinoceros enhanced with DNA of various breed of the ankylosaurus genus. Several experiments were done to make them face such a machine without fear, focusing on the function of the amygdala, but the result didn't suit their main goal and Babel had to find an alternative way to sell their stock.

Appearance

Height : 2.5 meters

Length : 5 to 7 meters

Weight : 4 to 6 tons

Max speed : 50 km/h

Lifespan : 20 years

Built mostly like a big indian rhinoceros, they possess osteoderm , knobs and plates of bone, over most part of their body. Their skin is hard and won't be penetrated by most bullets, much less cut by a regular knife.

Several colour are found within the breed, mostly inspired by camouflage battledress (better not ask how Babel ended up with those patterns).

Temperament

Due to the experiment, all individuals hardly feel any fear, they don't stress and never panic. But they also won't attack or fight back most of their lives.

Their survival instinct is to run; if knocked down they will fight off a certain amount of time before playing dead, their breath and heart slow and they stop moving.

The amount of time they fight off increases with age, lenghtening as the brain grow erasing part of the work done by Babel, even if all calf are born with a smaller amygdala than 'normal' (compared to a rhinoceros ). Around 16 years old SK will start to show agressiveness and  fight back.

Discipline

Giving up on military use Babel proposed several 'games' for predator breeds.

For all games, the SK are armoured, the variety of armour is wide, they can be fireproof, acidproof, resist a hunting riffle etc

SK can participate at all ages. None of the participant get any harm due to SK temperament and armour protection.

Wrestling - the goal is to pin down the SK for a certain amount of time (most of the time until the animal plays dead). (The longer, the higher the difficulty.)

Shooting - the goal is to "shot" the SK, the armour prevent any harm but is marked or coloured. (The smaller the SK, the higher the difficulty.)

More info on games/sports sheet.

Breeding

SK can reproduce with rhinoceros and pass on their trait, but it is likely to breed SK between themselves. Game animals are retired at 15 to be used as breeding stocks.

They tend to have one or two calf they nurse until 4 months. They go into heat twice  year.

Other facts

Babel bred SK have a bar code at the beginning of the neck.

SK can be privately bred.

The breed is CLOSED.
