Professor Layton is basically Sherlock Holmes without the condescending attitude and substance abuse, which, at first, made him a little too perfect. But as I played more of the games, I started to see that he does have some of his own quirks.

One of my favorite Layton moments actually isn't really plot-relevant at all, but there's a series of puzzles in the second game in which he absolutely refuses to take off his hat, and gets more and more adamant about it the more the idea is suggested. It was so funny to see this perfect gentleman start to crack, and when we find out in the third game why he never takes it off (which is very plot-relevant), I really started feeling for this guy.

He's just one of those classic protagonists!
