At last, another piece for the Women of Japanese Horror series! This is number eleven, believe it or not. When am I going to stop this madness?Anyway, this is Izuko, the guardian of the gates to the afterlife and posthumous counselor to the newly murdered, who appears in the excellent manga "Skyhigh" (you can find the scanlations on Omanga.net). She's sort of like the Japanese equivalent of Death of the Endless, only less cheery and lacking the ankh. XD The fetus on the bottom right-hand corner is a clue to her past, but you'll have to read the comic to find out how. I'm mean that way.

Oh, I love this manga! <3 It's so interesting and haunting... When I stumbled over this, I thought she looked familiar and to my delight, it's the guardian! She looks so amazing with your use of colors.

*Kidnaps you* They haven't made an english version of the manga or anime series yet wich pisses me off. They dont even have an english subtitled verision.. but they have french ones *boils* Anyway I watched the movie version of Sky High a little while ago and fell in love with it but NO BODY knows about it, so you're like the coolest person ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also have a drawing of izuko in my gallery, and a crap-tastic drawing of Mina who gets her heart ripped out in the movie.... Yeah it's great

I love this series....especially the way you draw kimonos. That, and with Izuko, the complimenting of pale skin with the dark kimono is amazing!
And by the way, you've inspired me to start working on my own series. I do a lot of drawings, particularly a lot of Japanese ones...why not work on a theme, I suppose?

I've got the same problem with the sleeves. I think the solution is to just look at a lot of old Edo period prints of kimono (if possible). Or manga with characters that wear kimono, like Kze Hikaru or Ai Yori Aoshi.
All that fabric falls in some rather strange ways....

Izuko! The curtains are done really well for the gates, and Izuko's expression is priceless~ have you seen the Sky High drama series? I love Izuko's kimono, but the dress in the series is really nice too..

My brains? Actually, believe it or not, I was flipping through a Kosher cooking book the other day and there were several recipes involving calf's brains. Brains in tomato sauce, brain stew. I'm not kidding! If you're gonna eat my brains, might as well be fancy. XD

Must remember to download this, if she remains this cool looking in the comic, booyah! Again and again I must tell you how much I love how you do that solid black hair, I remain envious. The background is something new, a different techinque with the watercolours. Well the look isn't just in the background, and it is a sweet change! Love the subtle dark in it, seeping into the light. And balanced against the ever present in your style gel pen useage and a pale face that would make Snape envious of its palor, flufflerwonderfuls! I can dig it (even for a second the baby looks like it is smoking).
*shudders* those ganguro...
