Description Fairy
Either I mistake your shape and making quite,
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Call'd Robin Goodfellow: are not you he
That frights the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labour in the quern
And bootless make the breathless housewife churn;
And sometime make the drink to bear no barm;
Mislead night-wanderers, laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you and sweet Puck,
You do their work, and they shall have good luck:
Are not you he?

Puck:
Thou speak'st aright;
I am that merry wanderer of the night.

-William Shakespeare
A Midsummer Nights Dream
Act II, Scene I

Okay, if I add any more to this painting I think I will utterly ruin it. So it's time to let it go, I think.

This is one of my favorite scenes in A Midsummer Night's Dream. It's so playful and flirtatious and fun. Both characters have always, to me anyway, read as a little cheeky. Puck is trying very hard to impress the dewdrop fairy, and she's flirting for all she's worth. If only their respective royalty didn't come along and spoil the fun....

Also, there is not a good place for illustrations that *aren't* technically fan art, so I'm guessing on the appropriate gallery for this.

Edit: Why does dA brighten all my colors, I wonder. Noticed after uploading that a layer had flattened incorrectly. Should be fixed now.

Also, I wanted to dedicate this painting to Josh, and Ryan, tricksters who both exited the stage far too soon.

WOW. I can't believe you PAINTED this! It looks SO good! Ha, my old teacher played Puck in university and I wish I'd found this sooner because he looks NOTHING like Puck in this painting. Those last few terms were endlessly funny, quoting M.N.D. at him repetitively in class. Ah, fun times.
Did I mention how good this is???
So. Good.

If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend.
If you pardon, we will mend.
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call.
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.

I love it! I know it's older, but I love it. I have all of Puck's speech memorized. I'm not going to be in the play, but I just love his little speech so much I had to learn it. This is a GREAT interpretation of it. I love your Puck.

This is incredible! Listen, I'm about to start writing the second draft of my as-of-yet-unnamed novel, and Robin Goodfellow is an important, although not central, character. I haven't chosen a look for him yet; may I use your interpretation of him? I'm asking because I don't know how much I'll be describing him in the novel, but I would really like to use your Puck and I would hate to feel like I'm borrowing too heavily from somebody without permission, you know? I would of course be sure to give you credit if I ever manage to get the book finished and published.

I am proud to say I figured out it was a comedy before I was told that XD So I'm getting good at understanding Shakespeare. The forest you did looks beautiful. Good job!
