Description big file

Made this lineart tonight, and I've wanted to do a step by step for a looooong time. When I'm finished I will make one for the dapples and colouration too, and one for shading.

Pic 1: Believe it or not, this part is in some level the most important for the whole drawing (to me)! This is where the "skeleton" is build, and if you make a big mistake here, you can see it it in your final sketch. I use quite some time on making this look as much as the pose in the reference, or else you'll have to redo it (or draw without it, but I don't like that) when you sketch. I try to get the legs to fit the way the legs bend on the ref, and so on.

Pic 2: A rouch sketch, build around the skeleton from picture 1. Here I don't use that a long time on details and so on, because thats what i do in Pic 3. I just lay the basic shape of the horse, and then I'll see how it fits when I get to the final sketch.

Pic 3: This is a fun part. I move the reference around with me, making every part look as good as I can. This is the final sketch to the lineart, and I'll make sure everything fits together before I get to finally lining the whole thing in. I like at this part to play around with how I'd like the horse shaded, just doing some small airbrushing here and there. It's nice to see what actually fits the pose before you go on any further. This is where the horse comes to live

Pic 4: I start lining up, in Paint Tool Sai I make a linework layer and work with that. Since I don't have a tablet (it's broken) that's the easiest. And I LOVE the way Sai makes lines!! I've always hated making lines in photoshop, sadly that also the reason I've stopped drawing in photoshop. But in Sai it's so easy, and fun too! (:
Anyway, I always start with the body, then I add the hooves, and at last the mane and tail...
Basically, it's just because i hate drawing the mane and tail

Pic 5: Oh well, that's just the final lineart (: I've added some more to the body and cleared up small mistakes and so on.
But the finished result! (:

Yeah, that what I love about Paint Tool Sai, It's brilliant for linearts! I hate making linearts in photoshop, they always become clumpsy and thick /:

Really? With the line tool? That's what I normally use, but it's nothing compared to the one in SAI, but sure just send me note!
