What do you typically get for an instrument like that? I have several strange ethnic percussion devices around my house, and I must say, I enjoy this sort of thing.

The prices are all different. The materials used, the size of the instruments, and the beading techniques are all determining factors. This particular one was $175 plus shipping. Take a look HERE:sekere.com/SEKERE%20PIX1.htm to see prices, photos and other information about them.
What kind of "strange" instruments do you have?

I have a couple of African skin drums, a log drum and a tongue drum, some hand made "finger piano" thing on a gourd and several different shakers. I do have a fondness for percussion, but sadly, the majority of my capabilities with it are limited to sampling and drum machines.

You shouldn't let all that good stuff go to waste. Maybe you should look for some lessons in your area.

Great! You have the right idea; have fun with it. Lessons are too much pressure anyway...and I know that from experience.
