Description This is my contribution to Drawing Day 2010 (today)! Its supposed to be an elf taking the opportunity of a masquerade to blend into the human crowd hoping that her slitted eyes and pointy ears will just look like part of her disguise!

This took about 3 hours to paint in Photoshop. I had a lot of fun painting this! The anatomy isnt spot on but, I still like it. Its nice to paint something a bit different now and again

I wanted to try something a bit more difficult, and outside the box of what I usually paint, and I'm glad I did! I tried really hard on the dress (after doing a similar style in this picture - [link] - I think the effect came out much better this time!), and also on the mask. I'm pretty pleased with how that came out. Yay sparkles and yay detail and yay for using interesting lighting for a change!

Anyway, its teatime, I'm hungry, 'nuff said

Enjoy!

Lovely work! such a beautiful piece with a great level of detail to the mask and clothing, as well as some great colours! The mask is perhaps a little out of place- I think it may be due to a lack of shadows around the edges of it.
However, you've done a beautiful job with the colours and background. Great job!

Thank you very much And yes the main fault wth the mask I believe is the shadows. I think it was ~Meganium who pointed out in a comment somewhere that there needs to be more of a cast shadow.. I really should go back and fix that!

Woah, neat! I love the colour scheme you used in this, it's very warm and lovely. Your shading is gorgeous and I'll never tire of the way you draw hair, haha. I also LOVE love love the detail on her mask! That looks so great, man! I think, though, it could benefit if you put a little more drop-shadow on the mask? Because as it is, it looks a little like it's just floating in front of her face, rather than covering it. But that's the only critty-thing I noticed, the rest is fantastic. Awesome work, m'love! :D

Thanks Moss! I was debating about the drop shadow of the mask - its supposed to fit close to her face but I think it could do with a bit more shadow, hmm~ Theres not that sense of weight..

Hey cool ...your pic is pretty epic and colourful, did it take you all day? - I think I shoulda found out about this earlier so I could plan in advance!

I've submitted something but it is very much a Drawing Haven't digi-painted in a while, still trying to work out how to put my 'personal stories' comic idea together

Thanks! ^_^ Took about three hours in one drawing session yesterday aft

I will head on over to see what you posted ^_^ Oooh youre working on a comic of it? Exciting! Cant wait to see!

3 hours constant? I like painting/drawing sessions like that, although they are becoming rare I need to get some peaceful moments where I can mess with Corel Painter some more.

hehe, well I'm working on trying to find the best way to put 3 things I have in my head into comic form - I've done some sketches of what I want, I just need to figure out how I'm framing each bit

Theyre rare for me too to be able to sit down for any length of time so I really enjoyed it all the more Is CP what you usually paint with then? I've always stuck to photoshop really. I want to upgrade but at the moment its *way* too expensive..

Well, I hope you get it to work, and I cant wait to see it! <3

Yeah I use Painter mostly ...most people use Photoshop as it has more functions, but Painter has a wide selection of brushes and just feels lovelier to paint with!

I use PaintShopPro-9 instead of Photoshop, which basically does the same thing, but again the painting tools suck!

I feel like such a waster the past few days ...see this is what work-tiredness and Hayfever are doing to me

I've heard painter is by far the best painting program with all the brush selections (although Photoshop CS5 is trying to make massive leaps and bounds to catch up in this area) but I'm just never tried it

I did start out using GIMP (ugggh awful! I had a right glitchy version, I could only ever save things on a single layer so I had to do everything in a single sitting - nightmare!) but after switching to PS I've never used anything else I guess I'm just happy with what I use for now though thats probably counted as being too close minded really! Have you ever used photoshop? In comparison to painter what do you prefer about both of them?

Aww boo hayfever Feel better soon!

Painter is quite revered by artists! I'm glad I discovered it ....if you happen on a copy (sneaky methods?) definitely get some use out of it, 'cos it rocks.

I use Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop. But PS is supposedly better.

Painter specialises in, well, paint. But for that it is tons better than both of them, by a wide margin!
