Since 1998 I have been TRYING to do anime-realism for my characters, still trying today.This is what I have so far after studying FF7's CG movie and doing people portraits for years.
The term "Anime-Realism":
Well... Realism is supposely meant for portraying the way things are.... but I don't really have a "model" per-say for my character's convertion, so it is really just an attempt at "Anime-Naturalism"
But since everyone called it... "Anime realism" I will go with that.
In general, anime-realism really goes with Asian porprotion... so.... although he's blond, he looks asian because it's anime style.

OHS, I was so sure that this pic was done with soft pastels. That is so incredible that you can copy the look of such a difficult traditional media into the cg realm!!! Freakin awesome. And I've always loved your char Jeremy, btw^_^

wow, i haven't tried doing any drawing like thta in ages, the results are amazing, the lighting and face structture are all there, but with more cheek bones than advent children, adding to the realism, have you tried looking at some of the death note coloured art as that's quite realistic sometimes, but mostly in shading. the hairr and amounts of colour and lighting came ou really well too.
i can't believe you did the whole pic on the comp though, i have trouble just using my drawing tablet at the mo.

Looks great! The effort and detail put into this amzes me. The whole "anime-realism" weirds me out a bit though. I guess because usually the anime-ish style looks nothing like the average asian person with the huge eyes and plastic mouth, but in the realistic version everyone is suddenly japanese o.O

Hmm interesting project, guess the tricky part is working out if you want more anime style proportions or try and cast something realistic. Think more real life refferences would help you alot more and i think you should put in some pinks to flesh it out a bit more :]

I will do that next.
The challenge part is actually collecting real life references that matches.
But for random studies I will have no problem continuing, right now I need to study more in the painting of the skin, they are kind of tricky. The proportion I am seeing progress in my work, although some details may still be missed at times, I get it down pretty much. The colors/texture on human/animals will be my next target of painting study.

Man, anime-realism is definitely tricky (since one doesn't have an actual model to get reference from) but you've done a great job :3
I've artists of Naruto, One Piece and HunterxHunter tackle anime-realism before, so it's pretty cool seeing your tackle on the style.

AHHHHHHHHHH this is amazing... and thanks for the tutorial there.. so you did it without pencils and scanner..? Very nice... I mean, these days I find anime style a little annoying because they are too common... (like not all styles, but the predominant onces - especially the ones with disapproportional huge eyes and abnormal.. um, feminine body parts - if you get what i am saying) not saying i dislike anime artists or anime in general (I still love anime), but I am just hoping to see new styles add into it. Great job, I like it a lot....

Check that realdolls thing. They've got a giant anime one. That's about as close as you'll get to this "anime realism". But then you should prolly ask yourself whats real lol

The final results from your tutorial looks great. I love that you made a "realistic" form of your 2 Masters character. I think it's always good to draw more life like forms, if you will, so you can stay sharp at what you are normally use to drawing. The lighting on his face looks great, especially around the nose, and with the hair that's always a tricky piece of the head to color or even to get the contrasts.
