Starfields!!  I'm a little confused.  I used to try and create varying starfields, combining clusters, varying magnitudes, sizes, colours and densities but a lot of the most popular space art have very subtle starfields so that they don't distract the eye from the main object.  I now create more subtle starfields but I am yet to achieve "great" spacescapes. Maybe I'll try something else.
Sorry for the rant.
Cheers

Keep practising! It takes time. The starfield in this particular piece needs a lot of work.

The stars could use a little bit more attention but the textures on the planets are lovely, as always. Great composition too. I love the atmospheric glow on the close-up planet. And it's high-res too. Nice work (:

Hey dude! Thanks for the critique. Sorry for the late reply. Hope all is well. Yeah, I don't like the stars in this one. They need a lot of work. I might go back and work on it again one day. Haven't done a close-up for a while, so might do another one soon.

Very, very cool. Wonderful work on the two planets. Wish the back planet had a little light aura around it.

Thank you! I prefer no atmospheric glow on the back planet in this particular piece. Thanks for the feedback.

Wow, it's fantastic to see how many shades of blue you
managed to put in here, and this atmospheric glow is really impressive!

Yeah, I like blue. . I recently updated the close up planet. I'm glad I did as I think I created a better atmospheric glow this time. Thanks for the fave and your feedback.

VERY NICE work! What air-brush are you using?

MaxDocker In reply to darrgo71 [2013-01-19 03:49:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. For the nebulae, I used a variety of brushes which I downloaded from DA. The brushes were ok, but in order to achieve the final result, significant manipulation was applied all brushing. I erased parts of each brushed nebulae, altered the opacity of each brushed layer, and transformed the brushed areas in order to create my own unique nebulae. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment.

I really like the atmosphere of this.

I know what you're saying about starfields. My favorite tutorial on how to make realistic looking ones is this one: [link]

Thanks. That is a great starfield tutorial indeed. I used it to make my first ever starfield. I think part of the difficulty when creating one is knowing when to stop.
