You are lucky to have such locations to explore, though places like this which still seem to have hope and beauty , I'm always hopeful someone will do something useful with them and make them beautiful again, not that they aren't beautiful in death, but perhaps there is a bit of Frankenstein in me where I want to see things live again, even if not as their former selves.

What was there? Villa o hotel? Maybe castle? I'm not going to find this place, I'm just so confused that such a wonderful building is forgotten and abandoned. I 'm not asking about location, I'm asking - what was there?
Such a mess, in my country there also are such a beautiful and historical places which are appreciated only by photographers and urban explorers. It's a bonus for explorers, give us shots and trips but what it gives for goverments? Like black holes. Long time ago there was a glory. There was a shiny live. But now these places are dreaming like Sleeping Princess. Waiting for kisses. So beautiful, so sad.
Lucky you! And lucky place. It looks very clean, very loved. Without vandalism.

It is like an old grande dame stripped of her finery and jewels and exposing what she truly is and was. The photo tells a story of grandeur lost, memories are all that is left and most of those who would remember are dead. I have seen a lot of these type of old hallways in palaces long disused in middle Europe where royalty once graced the rooms with opulent furniture and entertainment. this photo speaks to my old soul.

This almost looks like a public building instead of a private home. It either hasn't been deserted long, there is a caretaker, or this place was just plailn built to last.

awesome! It's a miracle that it hadn't been vandalized yet. Even if we don't give informations about the locations, these stupid people always find a way to get there. It's a pity. Well allover very nice picture, lightning is perfect and the hall itself is amazing : D

Well, I read the link above, and I understand why illpadrino does not disclose their locations. I respect that.
There is precious little chance that I will make a trip to Europe anytime soon, unfortunately.

So glad to see this isn't labelled as another 'abandoned' building. It is truly tragic how many wonderful structures are falling into utter ruin across the Western world (even if they do make excellent pictures). Love this shot: beautiful colours and geometry - and no tugging at the heartstrings (even if the building is disused)

Where the hell is this!? Such a gorgeous building- it hurts to see all that damp on the ceiling and the cracked marble. Really nicely shot- it's a sort of proud desperation that you've managed to capture. Awesome work!

It's a real shame that more of developers and hoteliers in the world don't wake up to the value and quality of places like this. Getting one of these places before it needs extensive renovations would make the cost of conversion from a private home to a hotel or spa trivial compared to the cost of building from scratch. These places have so much more beauty, elegance and charm than any of the modern eyesores that are being built!

Matthias-Haker In reply to Skia713 [2012-12-15 20:45:34 +0000 UTC]
I guess in general, it's not always that easy. There are certain factors that make the buildings not very atractive for investors. Usually, those buldings are listed, that makes renovation difficult and much more expensive and you often can't apply changes that would be fundamental for a modern business. Often, they are located in rather remote areas where it is tough to establish a business that pays off. And sometimes, they just belong to people who are not willing to sell them or ask for ridiculous prices.

This isn't really a photograph, is it.
Isn't it part of that digital restoration project for the digital tour application?
