Description Rajan, a farmer from Andhra Pradesh - India, works for a recycling company in Dubai,
and has been scavenging for discarded cartons for the past 8 years.

He collects around 150kg - 330.7lbs of cardboard material everyday
and earns 11 fils - 4 cents for every kilogram/pound of cardboard that is collected.

If you're wondering about that bicycle helmet he's wearing,

Cool photo, but those earning figures are terrible. That's incredibly low even for this type of work!

It's probably going to get worse.
When Rajan started out, he used to get around 18 fils per kilo.
Territorial disputes and ethnic differences make life more difficult than it already is for these guys.
They all have their areas of operation, which is respected, but whoever reaches a site first can pick up cartons from any public waste dump.

I took this shot moments after he had finished talking about his family.
That glaze in his eyes is merely a reflection of fond memories of the time he had spent with them.

Great portrait, as usual.
Fantastic piece of photojournalism, as usual.
Another Star Wars reference (helmet) as usual.

A million thanks, my friend!
Let's hope the force remains with Rajan, so he can afford to go back home and see his family and his farm once again.
