Fire scorched the hallowed Ring of Cambria, where the gates had been thrown open and the Pale Blue Light escaped. An entire fleet and vast guardian armies succumbed to the arcane evil when it first broke forth and enveloped them. The fires ignited on this day would burn for twenty years, a raging storm of incandescent flames, eating the world away down to the Scrith.

And yet, neither radiant particles nor exotic energy could deter the efforts of the Adeptus Mechanicus to unveil the secrets buried at the ringworld’s heart. For all the catastrophe it had brought, the opening of the gates promised the priests access to the vault where unknown secrets of old humanity lay.

Thus, they sent expeditions, ones of such magnitude they might have overshadowed entire planetary crusades. Spearheaded by titans of the explorator-clade of the Alexandrian Heron Virintribia, the mission to go beyond the threshold of the Cambrian Gates pushed through the walls of living fire and forced a breach right into the heart of the storm.

In the fifteenth year of the raging fires, contact to the explorators was lost by the greater cult of the Omnissiah. And for five years more there would be no news of this mission, until the fires upon the Ringworld finally died.
