Description ... for the wonder I am!

I didn't have my tablet so I drew Scar with an ink pen on paper and scanned it into Photoshop and coloured it there.
BG is done in like 5 mins with the touchpad, colouring and shading is also done with the touchpad so I believe there are a lot of mistakes and sloppy work some places... Like the white pixels around Scar.
I just used Multiply on the colours over the scan, and I don't know how to add a background without messing up the colourings so I had to erease the white with my touchpad. Doues anyone know how to transform white into transparent or has any other tips, please, I'd love to hear!

Here you can see the penwork: :thumb156235914:

Again used a lot of refs from the movie which helps me a lot in the actual drawing and later when I draw on memory.
I have practiced paws a bit and I am glad to see a small improvement on that.

I will do some cleaning of the pic when I get my tablet back x)

Hope you like it

Nice pic.

I'm not sure how your process is but I hope this may help:

White will become 'transparent' if you set the scanned-in linework's layer to Multiply, then color on a new layer beneath it!

If you paint with the fill tool, just have the linework layer selected when making your selections, then select the layer beneath you created for color and use the fill tool there. Instant color on your layer below!

If the color doesn't extend to the lines or has an 'edge', go back to the selection step, then go to Select > Modify > Expand, and expand the selection by 1 pixel. (This is for Photoshop. Other programs may have similar.)

Additionally, to add highlights, shading, or anything else to your base/flat main color layer, you can create a new layer, make sure it's above your color layer, then select "Create Clipping Mask" from the Layer menu. Any and all strokes you make on this layer will stay within the confines of the base color layer.

These instructions are based off of Photoshop CS3, but similar should apply in other programs or older versions of Photoshop. I used to use 7 and I believe it called clipping masks something else...

There's plenty of tutorials around for this sort of thing, as well. But I hope this helps you (and isn't too redundant per what knowledge you do have), as I suffered a similar frustration of "how to make white transparent!!" for a long time when I first started using graphics programs. I wish someone would've told me!

Wow! Thank you so much for the tips they were very useful!
I will try these the next time I do something like this!
On this pic I set the colored layer to multiply in stead of the lineart x)

Wow, you did a very good job on this!
As for getting rid of the white, it depends on how you colored the pic.

Thanks! I put a layer on top of the lineart and set the layer to "Multiply", and started coloring. I got some tips from Zinou that I will try next time^^

I couldn't stay away for too long though. DA motivates me to draw^^ I'm so glad a friend introduced me to it 4 years ago^^ How did you get to know about DA?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tardis101 In reply to marlynxTLK [2010-03-07 18:56:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, I was on a website called Gaia, and they had an art contest gallery thing, and most of the entries were submitted from DA, and because I had literally JUST got into art, I thought I would go check it out, and I fell in love with it immediately! Although, I don't like the new format much, it's annoying to see the deviations. I still need to do the lioness we made up for Scar's mate, I been so busy lately

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

marlynxTLK In reply to tardis101 [2010-03-09 10:10:01 +0000 UTC]

aah cool!
Yes the new deviation format is very annoying! I watch a LOT of people and having to click in to the grouped pics to watch everything is very unpractical. D:
I was hoping it would be something I got used to like many of the other changes DA have gone through, but this one is just annoying Dx
