Description

This is my vision of an astro-mage. He is painting with fire a star according to a parchment that he has placed on the ground. In one hand it has a brush with fire and with the other he is casting a fire spell that allows him to manipulate the flames and maybe rotate the 3d magic rendition of the star.

Hi there! Animator-supreme here for Project Comment! I'm just dropping in to check out this fine work.

I gotta say, I've been wanting to comment on this one all day, but just didn't have the right words until now. The grass texture, in the foreground and background, nicely done. The star and flames are, of course, my favorite part of this piece. I mean, just LOOK at them! You got the right mix of whispy flames and bright light, which can be a struggle. Bravo, Marinaawin. Bravo. The star, as well, is very well done, as well as the clothing and parchment. I also enjoy the features you put into the hair. My only qualms with this are the face, foot, and left hand. With the foot and hand, it's lack of shading makes discerning the shapes of the appendages difficult. I had to really focus on them to see the toes and digits. Maybe with some more definite blacks or darker skin tone, just behind the knuckles, would make it easier to distinguish them. As for the mage's face, more precisely, the eyes. Their corners, like by the tear ducts, should be aligned. Especially with the angle, the head is tilted at, you'd want to line them up. Without it, it all looks offset. That, truly, is all I have to say in regards to any improvements. All in all, I believe this work to be the product of talent and passion for your work. I greatly look forward to seeing more of your work.

Please! Please! Please! Keep creating! Keep posting! Keep loving what you do!

Thank you so much for this comment. It meant so much to read your words. I always put a part of my soul in in my work when painting. Thank you for pointing out the troubles with the shadows, I know I should be bolder with my shadows on the skin but still I hold back since they should be softer and so I always neglect the shadow spas on the skin. And regarding the left hand I got a bit carried away with the lights as well because I had to consider the ambient light as well as the magical circle runes around his hand which also cast a glow so in my mind there was... light, light, light... and I focused less on the shadows they got neglected The foot, has no excuse though since it's partly in the shadows cast by the garments... Thank you for the comment regarding the eyes. I will do better next time.

Thank you so much for the comment, kind words and encouragement. It means a lot to me.

I also wish that magic could work like this in real life though it may prove to be a fire hazard.

Comment from the ProjectComment
Not going to lie, this is one of the most creative uses of fire powers I have ever seen, using it to draw a star is something that I would not think of, you are a very creative person, everything here seems to use warm colors, tonnes of orange and red, that heavily contrasts with the dark green trees and leaves, I personally think it is good that you didn't make the background to colorful, otherwise it might distract from the main attraction, I really like the details on the mages clothing, his fiery long hair and orange almost yellow eyes also help to contrast with his very pale skin, the bottles are also a nice touch, I admit that I don't really know why the bottles are here, one seems to be generating the fire that he is using to "paint" the star, but I don't really understand what is with the purple bottle, but as long as it makes the art nice and good (which it makes) I am fine with it, being honest your art is very good, you are at a superior level than mine soo I don't really have too much to ad, if anithing I am just here to say how good your art is, I guess you could work his shadow a little better, but again, it is just an idea, your art is awesome in my book.

Oh my god thank you so much for the compliments, I am humbled by them and I am lost for words so I can only say again thank you for them. I think that I still make mistakes in painting so this is one of the reasons that I post on this group, so others can point the mistakes I made and I could not see, so I can improve...And you actually spotted a shortcoming regarding this image: the bottles. I my mind a painter uses more than one tube of color when painting so the bottles in this picture sand for more than one tube of color laying around. They contain "fire paint" that can be used with magic to create fire like 3D images. The yellow bottle contains yellow fire which he currently uses for the star the purple one contains purple magic fire and the blue contains "blue fire" which he does not use at the moment therefore they are closed and just laying around like a painter color tubes set... to be used for later if needed. A star seen in infrared light my appear purple hence the "purple bottle"... later he can decide to paint the same star in purple to see the effects.  At least that was the idea which I wanted to convey with the bottles... So I still have a lot to learn regarding context control in images. Thank you for pointing this out and for your kind and helpful words.

The more complex an idea is the harder it is to convey without words, the idea of the bottles as "paint" for the fire is a very good one, but it is a little hard to show with images only, maybe if the bottles were somewhat open to show the fire.
Again, that art was awesome and this is mostly just a small detail.

Thank you for the idea. When I paint on canvas I usually use acrylics because they are not so toxic and they dry fast so I have to place a color on the pallet and then be careful to close the tube in order to prevent the paint to dry inside so most of the time my tubes stay closed...thank you for pointing that to me.

Thank you so much. Well, he only controls the fire in this image... maybe I should start thinking about other elements as well, like earth since we are in an year governed by earth...although I partial to water.

Thank you. That is exactly what he is doing, a 3D image of the star in the scroll that he has placed on the ground.
