I've grown a lot as an artist this year, and I really wanted to express that with this piece. I feel that after a year of being a high school graduate, I needed to mature, and so did my art. This is by far my greatest project. I've put more effort into this than anything I've ever done before. And thus, I realize that this is indeed my passion, and I will be aiming for professional standards as Marek Sterling. Marek Sterling isn't my real name. It's my artist alias because my real name is a bit too common and not as unique as Marek Sterling. My mom and sister actually suggested the last name Sterling because they didn't like my former choice. Sterling makes me sound rich, so bwahaha! I wouldn't be surprised if I end up changing my artist alias some time in the future, but I'll be sticking with this one for as long as I can tolerate it. Coincidentally, one of my characters has a sword called Sterling Lestat, so now people will think I named a sword after me. Yay!

In this piece are many hidden talents that I didn't know I had. The brilliant sketch was done by ~Tangerinna , and can be found in all its raw glory here: fav.me/d6x2zke This was my very first time inking a sketch and making proper shadow and highlight selections (is it hard to believe?), so they may be a little wonky in some areas, hope you can forgive me but I'm still learning! They're heavily inspired by *herms85 coloring style, if you can't tell. *LibbyKeppen was very kind and took the time to tutor me a bit on making selections and learning to identify the light source (something that still confuses me; I think I just free-styled the whole thing). It's thanks to her that I was able to grow as an artist and produce this picture, so many thanks for taking the time to teach me!

I had fun creating my own personalized signature. It may be too small to tell, but the first letters of Marek and Sterling have double dashes, which was inspired from the Japanese currency, Yen. Instead of a dot above the "i" in Sterling, I replaced it with a star because stars have always symbolized my hope of reaching towards a perfect future. I have stars in my other watermarks, the Eycestar and Matrix Factory logos. I'll probably be making a few edits to my signature. It looks a little odd to me, but maybe it's because I'm still adjusting to it. The speech bubbles are there cause I'm aiming to become a comic artist, so I wanted to experiment with them. I'm hoping to get my first comic started in 2014! The "dance" bit is only there cause I was listening to a TON of music while coloring this. I sometimes catch myself getting distracted by it, but it's good for keeping my mind stimulated instead of staring blankly at a screen for who knows how many hours. Because I'm still a beginner at this, it took me 4-5 days to finish the whole picture. I should be able to complete projects like this a little faster now that I have an idea of how it's supposed to be done. But speed is something that develops naturally over time, so meh. I'll get there eventually.
