Description
A painting done for my church as requested by the priest. It's supposed to represent the Indonesian community's faith and thus I incorporated some traditional elements like batik prints and earthen colours.Indonesian lady reference photo from

Makes me think of Kwan Yin, actually. Good composition, though your technique definitely needs work.

interestingly enough, many chinese people do equate Mary to Kwan Yin. thanks though! im gonna practice more with oil

Yep, I know about the Kwan Yin - Mary mother of Christ connection. When Jesuits first came to China they would teach that Kwan Yin was a version of Mary. I'm suprised there's not a saint Kwan Yin of some kind, a la Saint Bridget.

The detail you put into this is exceptional...I especially like her clothing and the folds in the cloth. It has a nice calm and peaceful atmosphere as a whole. Even for someone who isn't so religious like me, you can really feel the faith in it.

ah, indonesia...i have a friend that grew up there, and i am trying to get the chance to go there myself with her ^_^ this is a great representation and i love the batik on the skirt. beautiful painting

currently the image will be the cover of a prayer book but im not too sure about the painting itself. probably hung in church someday
