I'm a little late on the uptake, but I love this image. Did you use David Thewlis as reference? I can't help but think of Kingdom of Heaven when looking at it (even though you have already stated that he isn't a Hospitaller)

yea i know what ya mean, looks just like David Thewlis, the hinged Norman helmet, maybe not the brownish surcoat, but definitely in the hospitaller direction.

Well, this guy has a brown surcoat with a white cross. Hospitallers tend to have a black surcoat with a white cross.
I would say he's a typical outremer crusader.

Canon of the Holy Sepulcuhre had brown surcoats and white crosses and they were a wing of the Hospitallers.
