Description
This picture, and this character, has been in the pipeline for over a year. I started the lineart for this when I was drawing online with livestream, but I've been trying to come up with my own solven character since the breed came out. I love this picture for some reason, and it was drawn completely without reference (as can be seen by my livestream videos).

Tristen came to Firelight recently when Adam found him for sale on the internet. Read the story below for some more information.

Story
Adam sighed as he scrolled through the ads on the computer screen. Page after page of push button horses, all claiming to be perfectly trained and good for beginners. He knew what he was looking for. He was looking for something special. He groaned slightly to himself as he let his hand rub over his eyes. He was just ruffling his messy blond hair when he caught sight of something scrolling past on the screen. He frowned and back tracked to take a look. It was a Solven horse, a creature he had been looking at for a while.

The man clicked on the advert and gazed at the picture for a minute. The gelding was stood in a field with his head held high but a cautious glint in his eye. Adam could tell from the picture that this horse had problems. He scrolled down and read the ad.

5yo buckskin solven gelding. Not broken.

It was incredibly brief, and Adam was intrigued. He rang the stables and spoke to the owner. They seemed very irritated and brash and told Adam he could have the 'damn' horse if he wanted. The man told them he would be there to pick up the gelding in an hour, and headed out to hook the trailer up to his Land Rover.

When the man first laid eyes on the horse called Tristen, he heart sank. This was not the horse he had seen on the internet. On closer inspection, his heart sank even further as he realised it was the horse. The picture he had seen must have been old, because this gelding stood in front of him was a shadow of that horse. He was skinny and malnourished, and clearly dehydrated. Adam went over to the horse who was cowering in the corner of his filthy stable. He shied away at first, but the man employed the techniques Aithne had taught him to gradually move closer.

After inspecting the horse Adam went to speak to the owner who was still demanding money for the animal. "I'll take this horse for nothing, and I won't report you to the RSPCA. If you want money, I'll get on that phone right now," the young man growled at the disgusting specimen in front of him. The owner backed down, returning to his battered old trailer as he mumbled curses under his breath. Adam went back into the stable and gently took hold of the gelding's mane. "Come on, handsome," he said quietly as he moved forwards. The horse stumbled after him, leaning against the human for support. The stable was a mess, falling apart and damp and clearly never cleaned out.

It took many months, but the team at Firelight got Tristen back into fighting form. He bulked up well and was soon galloping around his field happily. Adam felt his heart swell every time he saw the handsome gelding with his tail held high as he pranced across the flat grass fields. Soon he would be ready to be ridden and that day would be a great day.
