Yeah it's a little like that. To be honest Sliders probably has more of an impact on my story ideas. It was a great series from the 90's a shame it only got worse as it went on due to Fox and Sci-Fi Channel. Mainly Fox.

Yeah I agree, Fox got the series in season 3, wrestling it away from the original creator and then screwed it up. The first half of season 3 was ok, but once they killed off one of the main characters it was a goner in my opinion. Season 5 picked up a fair bit imo. But it was cancelled with no conclusion.

Season 3 and 4 were in my books a little iffy. Season 4 went off the deep end in my opinion and season 5 really tried to fix that while having a new cast (except for 1) and trying to get the show on more of an direction like the original seasons. But I agree once season 3 hit and first loosing Arturo and then Wade at the end of the series (she simply doesn't return for season 4) it became a rather boring show. It's a shame as it started off so strong as a series.

Yeah I agree. I still need to sit down and watch season 5 that I got about a year ago on DVD. It's getting through late season 3 and season 4 that is hard for me. Once Arturo dies it's hard for me to watch the rest of season 3.

Yeah the original four really made such a great team and family. Each had their importance and strengths and weaknesses. I always felt Arturo was the father of the group, always the one thinking before acting and always offering advice and caution. Quinn was the genius and de-facto leader of the group. If there was a scientific solution chances are he would find it, along with help from Arturo. Wade was the heart, always leading with her heart and trying to do the right thing. I also felt she above all was the one that helped to keep Quinn honest and on course. I think he may have given up trying to get home without her. Remmy was the poor bugger along for the ride but really grew into his role and the one character that had the most character development I feel. He had the military past and experience and looked at life in a totally different way. He also had a compassionate center, which worked in well with Wade. I feel he was there for Wade as much as Wade and the Professor was for Quinn.
Unfortunately late season 3 and season 4 lost a lot of that, which I felt was the strength of the show. Season 5 got that back a little with Remmy leading them. But it really didn't have the clear focus that seasons 1 and 2 had.
I had often thought what it would be like as a reboot, seems everything is being rebooted these days. However I don't think it would work, the actors where the characters more than the script. They put so much of themselves into it. I feel it's just one of those shows that due to Fox never had a decent chance to begin with and that's a real shame as it was such an awesome concept and initial execution was fantastic.

I think the new Spider-man reboot far succeeds the original. But I agree most other reboots aren't that crash hot. I did like the short lived V reboot as it was totally different to the original (however still remained elements from it) and still made it new and exciting. It's a shame it only lasted 2 seasons however.

Yeah I think the reboot is more successful, however I didn't like the actor they choose for Harry, I prefer the other actor in the Tobey series.
I grew up with the original V as the remake while very different was done pretty well. A lot better than the BSG reboot.

True, the actor was better.
The original BSG I saw as a child. The reboot was just Crap.
Was perhaps the fact that they've changed the story a bit and many of the male characters have been replaced by women.
Dirc Benedict as Starbuck was much more sympathetic. Likewise Apollo was better in the original.

Yeah I did like the ship designs and technology but the story line (all that god crap) and the acting wasn't as good. It started out okay but by the end of season 2 it just had gone so far off rail that I didn't enjoy it as much. I watched it until the end and I must admit Razor was the best thing out of the last 2 seasons.
But overall the original was better, I hope if they do another reboot they keep more faithful to the original series.

There were several attempts in progress before RDM's BSG. One was actually very close to the TOS BSG in fact but the September 11 bombings threw it's tight timeline out and the project unfortunately collapsed. They even had some concept art done and a storyline in the works. I would like to see that project given a shot.

If we're lucky as I thought it would had been a great movie or series. It still had the Cylons as robots and still used the Yaren measurement for years etc. I think that they made Adar the President a woman however but that is no biggy considering the president dies in the Cylon attack during the peace armistice.

Indeed, it would be a rather boring world if everyone had the same views and opinions.
I found with Trek II, they tried to do something different than just an alternative Space Speed or Wraith of Khan. While elements from those two do exist in the movie I think they tried to be as different as possible. I think for a reboot it was successful, parts of the movie I clearly didn't like just like with the first one. Then there are parts of all 10 movies from the Prime Timeline that I don't like as well. Unfortunately Trek fans are a rather impossible bunch to please, a reason Enterprise wasn't successful as so many fans are stuck with their minds on one particular form of canon and are unwilling to accept new possibilities and differences and so they rebel, refuse to watch, wine on the online forums and communities. I think these types that turn an ant hill into a mole hill miss the original ideas of Trek, exploring new ideas and possibilities and embracing differences. That is a reason why I accepted the reboot off the bat, things like the Uhura/Spock relationship I don't like as I feel it makes Uhura into a less strong female character and Spock into a more human character but I don't let it stop me from enjoying the new movies.
Wow that was a lot, my bad!
As for Robocop, I never found the original movies that appealing, I did enjoy the short-lived series however. I think with the original movies there was too much gore for me which ruined the enjoyment of the movie for me. As for the Reboot I liked some of the twists of it, however I find that I would have preferred that Robocop's identity had remained a mystery to everyone including his family. Without that mystery the reboot did fail a little in my eyes, however I still enjoyed it as it's been so long since we had a new Robocop movie or series.

The Star Trek reboot has some good points.
I think the cast of Kirk, McCoy and Spock are very well chosen, Chekov and Sulu less.
I didn't like the design of the backdrops. The engine room has rather reminds me of a warehouse.
I found the romance between Spock and Uhura as very inappropriate.
"Into Darkness" seemed to me partly as a bad parody, for example, at the end, where Kirk sacrifices.
I think they should have taken for the content something new, instead of recycle parts of the old movies.
Let's see if another part comes.

Majestic-MSFC In reply to Grummel83 [2014-10-31 23:27:02 +0000 UTC]
The apple store backdrops weren't that well designed. Too white and bright for my liking.
I agree on the casting with the trio, I really think they really did a fantastic job on Kirk and McCoy. I am not overly happy with Spock but he does pull off a younger Spock well enough to me. I just think it's hard for me to see anyone other than Nimoy in that role. As for Spock and Uhura's relationship I feel it weakens both characters way too much. The engine room in the first one was due to them running out of money for back drops which I find stupid. Seriously a multi-million dollar movie and they could throw a few extra hundred thousand into it to make an engine room?
At least they fixed that with Into the Darkness with a proper set. Though parts of that movie still bug me like as you said the recycled parts from Wraith of Khan at the end of the movie. It was a bit of a shock to see Kirk dead, however we all know he wouldn't have stayed dead. In fact I would have much preferred the movie if they had actually demoted Kirk and Pike too back the Enterprise for a reasonable amount of time in the movie then had Pike injured with Kirk resuming command and then finally Kirk earning the Enterprise back rather than just given back by a corrupt Admiral. It was a reasonable movie, but could have been a lot better if they dared to make it more original and less status-quo.

Yeah Kirk going from a cadet to first officer, then Captain is a bit far fetched for me as well. Considering all the commissioned officers on-board. He skipped the chain of command big time when Pike made him first officer.
Still if one can overlook the inconsistencies it's a decent sci-fi movie, just not the best Trek movie. I watch it mainly as a sci-fi movie and try not to have any expectations going in.
