Description These are two octopuses (octopie?) that I crocheted recently. The green one is my very first amigurumi and the second one was a commission for a friend. If you're interested in owning your very own octopus (or any other critter!) send me a note!

Oh, and they were crocheted using and H or a J hook and sugar n' cream's cotton yarn. I just can't resist their bright colors! They are about four inches tall and six inches wide. They were stuffed with the regular stuffing you buy at the store.

Well the octopus pattern is an easy one to start with! Β Crochet seems much easier to me than knitting, but I think it just depends on what you start out with. Β Some people I talk to feel the opposite way as me

I'm glad you like them

I have absolutely no idea how to crochet so I cannot compare it to knitting (yet.) Is there any chance you could you point me in the direction of an octopus pattern if it is a good starter? Thanks.

Here:Β www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patt…

(Or go to lionbrand.com, click free crochet patterns, search "octopus")

it's the one on top. Β When you click "free pattern" you'll have to make a free account with lion brand to access it. Β They have a ton of patterns there though and it's worth it. Β To make the octopus all you need to know is: slip stitch, chain, single crochet, stitch decrease, and stitch increase. Β You should be able to find videos for all of these things on youtube. Β They have lots of crochet help videos there now and it really helps to see someone do it as opposed to just reading about it. Β

I think it's the most simple amigurumi pattern you could start with. Β Good luck! Β Let me know if you need help!

Thanks very much for all the intel. I'm gonna start out making granny squares for my storm trooper Afgha to get used to crochet. A pals girlfriend is going to show me. After that if I get on with it I may well go for an octopus

Awesome! Β Have you started the storm trooper afghan? Β Β
I've been wanting to make one of those style of afghans for a while now... I have a different granny square blanket that I need to finish first though...

(sorry for the delay on my reply)

Thank you so much Β

The price for your very own would be $25 + shipping. Β This would include any details you wand added (expressions, crochet flower head decoration thing, embroidered mustache, whatever! Β  )

The price covers 3 hours of labor at $8/hour, yarn (approx. $3), and button eyes ($0.80)/saftey eyes. Β If you do the math that comes out over $25 so I'm selling myself a little short. Β

Note me if you're interested and we'll talk octopie design! Β Β

Perhaps. I have about a foot of my 5 ft blanket done, I need to go on to 4 feet more or 3 ft if I decide to do a 5 x 4 pattern instead.

It was a free pattern actually, from lionbrand.com

you'll need to make an account but it's free and there's a ton of patterns. Anyway, go to lionbrand.com click free crochet patterns and search "octopus". Their octopus is purple. When you click on it it'll ask that you sign up. ta da!

if you were inspired by my piece, though, you're still more than welcomed to give me some credit

Thank you so much, and good luck!

Where did you learn to crochet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MadeWithLove8 In reply to Aquatosaur [2012-06-26 13:06:37 +0000 UTC]

my mommy taught me the basics when I was little and until about a year ago I never really thought of doing much with crochet and then I saw the Jazzy Scarf pattern in a magazine and and decided what the heck I'll try it! And then I learned that it wasn't so hard to make fancy things (you just have to know the basics and have patience) and I taught myself everything else I've done so far! But! I have my mommy to thank for getting me started

I try to keep my prices reasonable. If you were to buy a stuffed animal that sized from walmart it would only be five bucks (good luck finding an octopus there though ) I want them to be reasonable so I can make things for people instead of them buying mass produced products elsewhere

Send me a note if you're interested

ah hahahaha well it is very good you don't know. It's a huge department store that sells a little of everything. Food, furniture, toys, sports supplies, craft supplies, etc. It gets a really bad rap because it really seems to focus on making money, and not so much on product quality, environmental issues, employee relations, etc. It's just a really really big business, and it seems the bigger the business the more important money becomes. I'm in the US so there's like one in every town :/ They just ruin small businesses

You're welcome! And, whenever you're ready just let me know

I might actually get one sooner than i thought cuz I'm gettin mah money early. Thanks!

These are so good for your first
I haven't got a picture of my first anymore as it was on my old laptop which died. It was meant to be a little cat but really looked nothing like one

I may go back and do the pattern again to amuse myself as at the time i found it so difficult.

You should be proud

SO CUTE!! I've always wanted to make octopus (but then again, I see them so often, so I'm not sure anymore...) And I loooove sugar n' cream cotton yarn!! :3

I like how you made them sort of "match" each other, with their eyes the opposite colors of their bodies!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MadeWithLove8 In reply to Meowkernaut [2012-03-05 21:35:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah there are a lot of octopuses around anymore but its so funny each person's seems to come out just a little bit different even though I can tell some are using the same free lion brand pattern! it's neat! And the matching was sort of an accident! Lucky accident I guess!

Thank you so much!

Meowkernaut In reply to MadeWithLove8 [2012-03-26 02:25:20 +0000 UTC]

True true!

I didn't realize it was a lion brand pattern. :3 I made one improvised, but it's pretty much the same design

Will check it out!
