When I just saw this in your gallery,
just as the small preview,
it brought a smile to my face.
But when I clicked on it,
everything changed.
I saw so much sadness..
And once I began reading,
I began crying..
Well done. β₯

Thanks a lot! It really was a disturbing scene, probably one of the most troubling photos I've ever taken.
In some parts of Europe it is like this too. I saw a dog get abused once, and it made my stomach curl.
We definately need a lot more compassion for people AND animals in this world.
Thank you ! <3

There definately needs to be a greater investment on all our parts.

I'm from Mindemoya (on Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron), Ontario!
AND the reason why I asked you where you found this man, is because I was in Toronto, shopping downtown, mainly on Queen street like one or two weeks ago, and I SAW THIS VERY MAN AND DOG.... what a strange coincidence.
Nice shot : )
Do you live in TO?

this picture is unsettling in its way.
At the same time, I see the homeless person you always pass by on the street of downtown, I also see a guy, not much older than myself, looking sad, lost and lonely. Even clutching the dog to his chest, its curled up like a baby, because he's its only protector. Almost brings a tear to your eye.
Plus, the saturation here just totally works. way to go.

thank you so much! <3. I'm glad you see it in that way, because that is how I saw it to.
Nikki ( who was with me) and I had to stop and take a deep breath after we saw that.
That night, doing this picture, thinking about it, made me cry. Its hard to imagine the feeling of being so alone in such a crowded, cold world.

Jeez, Madd,
C'est super-beau, ca. The photo captures perfectly your written comment that it is nothing special. We suffer, we solace one another and are solaced in quiet moments lost to the world. Except when somebody like you catches them. Vraiment chouette! Quelle est la ville? -- Al

Merci beaucoup!! ^_^
I'm glad that you can see it how I see, because I find that it is something so important to acknowledge as a part of our humanity. To live life in comfort and woe, while cherishing it all.
La ville est Toronto, où j'y habite maintenant parce que je suis prendre les cours en université de français... Mais je suis desoleé; mon français est très mal... je suis apprendre encore.

D'abord, Madd, ton French est magnifique. Allez, pousse-toi. Et, puis, j'adore Toronto. (Moi, je suis, a West Palm Beach, Florida. Au moins, bien voisin.)
The acknowledging is what counts. The American philosopher Stanley Cavell has an essay called "Knowing and Acknowledging," that I bet you'd like. There is a moment in King Lear when Edgar says "The worst is not yet come so long as I can say, "THIS is the worst." I think this is because Edgar is counting on somebody like you to bear witness to his pain.

Merci Encore!! Good to hear my french isnt that bad! That is awesome you live in Florida.. I went once when I was five; At the time I was obsessed with manatees, so I went to Homisassa Springs, and it was amazing.. I am dying to go back some time.
Wow, cette citation, c'est incroyable.
It makes you think about how our subjective suffering is. How we balance woe is solely based on the context of it.. such as, how one's suffering is diminished in the eyes someone who has experienced a much more horrible pain. (say, for example, a relative dying is almost irrelevant to those in Pakistan who lost their entire familes.) I think it is wrong to judge pain on this scale, because in any extent, whether the suffering is minor or extreme, we should all take the moment to acknowledge that person (such as a person on the street) and confort whatever woe they have.
Maybe I'm off on a tangent, but its a good thought to ponder.
I am definately going to check out that essay.
