WIP video (14 secs long)
I made it up from photos I took so the lighting changes in each frame depending on the room light .. oops.

Mixed Media study of some tropical fish that I took photos of at London Zoo. Unfortunately I forgot to check the species of these ones but they were really mesmerising. This drawing should be considered as a quick study and I didn't alter the colours digitally at all.

I intend to work in paints for the final work (don't know which type yet ... ones that will allow for plenty of detail most likely). The composition and everything will be totally different, but you have to start somewhere. One thing I hate about this one is the background .. it's so rushed.

Used:Murano pastel paper, Karisma and Derwent Studio pencils, Soft pastels and Derwent Pastel Pencils, and lastly, some Process White gouache. See the tools here --> [link]

Well the species of these two fish are Anthias but the call it sea goldie, lyretail coral fish/anthias and scalefin anthias. the yellow/gold color is represent as the female and the fuschia color is represent as male and the fish behind them isΒ Seychelles anemonefish.
BTW your painting is awesome

I really like this... the yellow/orange one looks very much like one of my daughter's goldfish.

I know need to find her a purple fish like the one depicted here.

Awesome colors here.

Hehe, yeah I haven't figured out what type of fish it is yet. I'll have to sit down with the picture and the internet to figure it out at one point.

I hope to get some fish one day, they are so peaceful and graceful to watch.

Thank you very much.

Are you sure they're not salt water? The little one looks rather clownfish like. Very pretty though. I've always had such troubles with making scales look nice and yours are gorgeous.

They could be! I really would be guessing. I'm annoyed with myself for not remembering to make a note of their species. There were clownfish in another tank and it does look like it could be part of the same family. Salt water fish may be a good place to start my internet identification (if I can't get back to the zoo first, of course).

Scales can be a pain when there are so many. I made more of a suggestion with these rather than too much detail, so I'm happy that you think they work. Thank you very much!

Very lovely, I adore their little faces! tropical fish are very hard to capture without it looking cartoony or unrealistic, you have done a fantastic job

They really do. It's hard to give them any emotion at all. They're faces are sweet though. I'm still on my quest with these ones and I'm going to try and progress this idea somehow. Thanks for commenting.
