The most deceptive "children's" novel ever.

yeah I feel you, I feel that way about hands, they're my Thing
You're really great at Rabbits, it's really obvious that you're well practiced with them!

oh dude hands are such a good thing to enjoy drawing, they're so necessary for so many kinds of art and so many people are scared to death of drawing them, a cool thing to be your Thing
I am pretty practiced with rabbits! I used to let my bunny out of her hutch and doodle her while she exercised haha

haha yeah that's actually how they became My Thing
everyone constantly complained about hands, and how much they hated drawing them
and kept saying how that was just an Artist Thing, hating hands, and being bad at them, so I was like "no I refuse, I will be Amazing at them!"
I was determined to just be great at them, and practiced them constantly haha

aah yeah that's a good motivation!! I've had the fortune of never hating drawing hands, but I definitely need to practice them more lol

I got that determination before I ever really tried to draw hands, so I never really had a time where I hated drawing hands either, because at the time where I maybe would have, I was instead feeling competitive and defiant lmao

aw that's kind of adorable haha
like your first time drawing a hand and you just finished the wrist and you're like "alright now it's TIME I'm gONNA DRAW THIS HAND" lol

I sat down and did pages and pages of hands in different positions

I would write random messages by drawing a series of hands in fingerspelling positions to make words and sentences (my sister was born mostly deaf, so at the time I had also been teaching myself sign language, so that I could teach her)

and now I have dozens of random hand studies in my gallery, and it's obvious I just generally enjoy doing hands lmao
none of the studies are from back then unfortunately, because I don't really have a lot of art from when I was younger :\

That's really cool about the hand-messages, it's a clever way to practice hands and to leave secret messages haha. Sign language is amazing and I wish everyone could learn it tbh

And that's too bad about not having art from when you were younger. It's always kinda nice to look back and see how you've improved from when you were a kid (and also kinda humiliating a lot of times lol). But hey, at least you've got some stuff in your gallery now that you can look back on in a decade!!

It's just that most of my art was done in my notes or homework from school, so it didn't exactly survive lmao
I do actually have a decent amount of art from seventh through ninth grade, and I've tried to do a "art through the years" thing a few times, but for some reason every time I go to do it, the file will corrupt
it's... kind of unnerving actually..

ohh relatable, I had a bunch of stuff in notes and homework that's all lost to time too. I remember doing this thing when I was first learning how to shade where I drew a shit ton of spheres on everything, all of my homework and notes were covered in shiny little spheres haha

Whoa that is super weird!! You've got like a fussy ghost in your computer who's like "no, no looking back, only forwards now" lol

It's frustrating because like, my art stayed the same really Not Good style for like three years
and then in a year I improved DRASTICALLY
and I love to show people to encourage people like, anyone can improve, even if you've been really stagnant for a long time, you can still start growing if you put in the work
it just takes giving it the time
That's what I wanted to make the look back thing for, you know?
