Description the second submission to a series..
please consider all elements.. foreground and background.. crit welcomed.. open mind and open eyes.

downtown san francisco, noon. d70.
shooting with a friend who is doing a story on the homeless on our cold streets.

wherever you go in this city, social deviants, outcasts, drug addicts line the streets. children's eyes are diverted with caution.. these people are bums who want a fix, not help...

80 percent of the homeless population in san francisco is there because they are suffering from a devistatingly inhibiting mental disease/disorder.. people who are down with no way to truly get back up. "get a job!" .. get real. these people are sick .. yet we throw pennies and the occasional sympathetic smile.. if they're lucky.

born of the same womb as you and i.. what seperates her from you?

Good photo, story rings all too true today.
I have known some homeless people in the past and got far too close myself, once.Bad things can overwhelm you very fast if not careful(and then they still might).I believe most need better social services than are currently available at the moment.A few are self-dest. and are beyond help.A very few.The rest just need someone to give them a chance to start over. This is my expressing a few thoughts and i don't all the facts about the problem.
Still a good photo.

All the compositional elements are there. Well spotted man, this is such a well executed photograph.
And i do like the story, it is such a shame. :[

really like this, you have used a good diagonal composition which i always adds energy to a picture, but coupled this to a stationary person i like the opposing forces at play.

technically good contrast exposure etc.

can i ask what lens you used and how far away you were?

18-70DX Nikkor..

i was 3-4 feet from her.. i was shooting a story while the writer was engaging in a conversation with her to the right of my frame..

I don't know why, but being close is important, and i always think you can tell in the picture.

anyway great shot.

sometimes, i have found interacting with subjects has left me stilted and lead to poor pictures, i prefer to work candidly

Great photo... it really conveys the reality of this world. and with the words... even more so. It's good to see that not everybody wants to sweep the mess under the rug.

Amazing! How did I miss this?! The composition is absolutely amazing! Jaw-dropping! You've got quite a touching piece here. I agree, some people do not deserve the status they were given in life when they were born. Some truely great and amazing people (I know a few) will never be recognized due to their location on the social foodchain.

I have to agree with others when they say this is an excellent composition. Is that a police car behind her? I noted how her head is down, not held high. Very sarcastic comments. But I don't know if she was born from the exact same womb as me I get the point.

Very strong. This photograph is a powerful statement, even if you didnt explain at all on your comment this photograph says it all.

Excellent regarding contrasts and perpectives etc, but what is most captivating here is the "sarcasm" and the irony between two contrasting messaging. "Our community" and "what community" or even unity?

I dont know if I make sense on all the above, but one thing i know. This is what i consider true photography.

Excellent work.

How perfect. I love how she is at an opposing angle to the cop car. Somewhat metaphorical. It was a great idea to set it up so that the car just showed "our community". Powerful message.
