Description BR diesel-hydraulic Class 42 ("Warship") D821 Greyhound (built at Swindon in 1960) enters Bewdley station on the Severn Valley Railway with an afternoon service from Bridgnorth during the line's Diesel Gala in October 2011.

Only two of these locos (the other being D832 Onslaught) remain in existence; Greyhound is now not far off her 40th anniversary as a preserved engine, having spent a mere dozen years in BR service! An attractive loco, I feel.

Love these old things! I wish they'd been kept on later, they didn't get much chance to show what they could do, had they used standard parts, there'd be no stopping them!

Indeed, a good-looking engine.

I do admit I really love this scheme. They look rather nice on this Warship locomotive c: Plus it matches the yellow front really well. Makes me like it for once

Great photo n.n

Yes, the yellow actually works here, doesn't it?

Thanks!

yeah I agree.

To Be Honest, i always hated how the fronts were painted yellow, especially when the locomotives were painted blue.

I mean, I know its a safety feature, but personally, I didnt like how it looked.

No problem n.n

I may know so much about trains that you could fit it all on the back of a first class stamp (and a small one at that) but I do know that this really is a very nice colour for a train! And so many carriages too!

Mmm, I do like this particular livery. One of the nice things about preservation is the care that's so often lavished on that particular aspect.

They are indeed quite attractive! Though I must admit, I prefer the originals. [link]

*Grins* Indeed -- though they'd have a job fitting under our bridges...

Yeah, restrictive loading gauge... Grab a pickaxe!

Well, if we ever get HS2 built, that should be to Continental gauge, so maybe they could use that.

Indeed! Two, in fact, but the other one's at the West Somerset Railway. It's very nice to have D821 at the SVR, though.

It is good looking, but a lot different from its American cousins. Nice shot!

About half the size, for one thing. Thanks!

I love the engine's livery and the coaches' color

Oh yes, they really work well, I think. The loco's also been in green and rail blue (see The Railway Centre's photos ) but I think red looks particularly nice and suits the set perfectly.

And btw, if you add a mechanical claw on it's top, voila! It's Diesel 10
