Description Yang, a Gryphon-Race of Therpa (they are called Gampeo there)
Otter - Dog like creatures with a strange tail, Yang is the "sheepdog" of Dun in the Story "Stoneheart"

I know the animation is far away from being perfect or correct.. my first try to get a digitalized one of a sketch, this one is 100% drawn by me, you can see the animated sketch here:

The movement of the tail and the head need to be fixed

UPDATED
Fixed the head and added a tweening, should be more fluid now

.. ugh.. I think that's too much tweening, I better remove that later

Great work, even if agree with what you say on it not being fluid enough. The head and tail is a bit skippy, but the legs look wicked. can't wait until you get the hang of this!

Thankies!
Already tried to fix the head a bit, but that still needs some work, also the tail of course, I want to put that on a website.. when it looks acceptable, I really wonder that the colors still look quite nice in GIF format

Greetings!

I agree the head and tail look a little jumpy, but the legs are FLAWLESS. Well done!

Thanks a bunch!
I am working on a better version of this, the tail needs a more "fluid" movement, I already have a whip-like movement drawn for it, but I am not sure anymore if it fits to the rest

It needs to be a bit more fluid, there should be animation references around the net for that. Maybe more keyframes re needed or maybe it needs more balance, i really havent studied the animal walk cycles but there should be some online. If you really are intrested, ill see if i can search on my end.

I have a book about cell- general animtion, its generally for distance-learning, its really great, the only prob. is that all the stuff is for more comic-like movements, not 100% natural ones. I must add, I only paid attention to the legs and generally ignored the other movements, I will try to put it all in a better balance, so that the frames don't jump, also the head and the tail will get a defined movement, A Keyframing programm would be practical so that you can make 20 frames out of these 8, but I don't found anyone in the net yet.

Are you using "The animator's survival guide" too? ...its my bible !!!!!! But em.....You can change the frame per second in macromedia flash "if its the program you are using" as you could simply import the drawn pictures in the program and cushion the animation by adding in-between frames. Or there is always toonboom.

*searches around*

Here i think i found something that might help ya :

[link]

This site has various walk cycles, ull have to look around for the animal ones ^_^;;

Hope it helps.

I am using a complete collection-book of Preston Blair's smaller booklets , with character animation, synchro-animation and various other stuff like perspective animation and so on.. quite also a bible, and a really heavy book great overall, but yes, quite comical, and a lot of disney-animation-way in it

hmm, the link don't works for me, it seems that the server there is down, I just get an empty blanc site.

I used Photoshop for coloring and Fireworks for animating, I think also ImageReady allows key-framing, I have flash too, I should play a bit more with these programms is there a free version of toonboom? I want that program since ages!

Oh yeah the blair man, i have a site showing some his methods....Ah crap its down and updated...... [link] Hm never tried firework for animation, cant shake off the fact that i am hooked to the onion skin animating technique. But em, the site should work, ive just clicked o_O

As for toonboom, well you can get it the way most da users got photoshop....you know what i mean -_-;;

Lizkay In reply to Mokuu [2005-07-17 14:10:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh, hey, the link works now, possible that it was my connection, .. which is a peeving thing
and yep, know what you mean with the toonboom studio, I think there is a free version of Mirage, for course useage or something like that, or it is even free if you don't use it for commercial stuff, I work with it in my firm and so far its the best Animation programm I ever had Toonboom is quite similar, but as said, never got the chance to try it. There is also another book concerning natural and animal animation, also Background animation, from a quite popular guy, but I don't remember his name.. *agrr..*

Thats looks real nice Liz n.n

Like you said, the head just needs fixing to stop it 'bobbing' around so much, and you could put a real nice whip-like movement on the tail. The feet look awesome though!

Lizkay In reply to animamia [2005-07-15 08:05:29 +0000 UTC]

Thankies!
I think I focused on the legs too much and ignored the rest The head has a really nervous movement there, also the eyes I will put up 4 head frames instead of eight, and just move the head with the whole body and not changing it's shape, that should help a bit. I already drew a animation loop for the tail, just needs to be "build" in

Greetings!

The legs are the most important part anyway, it makes sense that you concentrated on those n.n
