Description ... and another animated Scene, I keep doing running creatures cause that's the best training

Anyway, I wanted to animate Yang since ages, and I already have a fave image of him, so I used that one as base

again, it's no frame-by-frame animation, it's done using the puppet Tool in AfterEffects and some more other effects and stuff added
First time that I added an animated reflection, also used a dog gallop dia as reference for the movement, hope it looks a bit more decent.

Just thought I share as the people seem to like those scenes, not really much happening there though

EDIT: well just ignore the head, it's looking like that because of the baseimage I used ( [link] ) not sure if I can change that, would need to draw the head completely new, it's hard to change those animations though...

EDIT 2: changed the HEAD and some other small parts, hope it looks better now

An invalid argument.
Better examples exist.
Difficulty is only a limitation of an individual. Not a factor in the effort achieved.

ad-hominem statement, eh?

Not a great way to win an argument by the way.

Yeah I can't draw the Mona Lisa but examples do exist that prove otherwise.

If you think the person was so incapable to create a good animation then I would like to see you do a better job, if this is what is considered to be 'lazy' then you must know an awful lot to make that judgment.

Yeah, it's called "I've seen better".

Alright, you've seen something that you think has been done up better. Now explain to me why this animation is 'lazy'.

It's easy to make animation when you just use the life like...

PUPPET TOOL!

StormyMirror In reply to Timewap1 [2015-09-20 11:27:18 +0000 UTC]

Right, you think making an animation with a puppet tool is easy. Now you demonstrate and we'll compare the two animations.

Timewap1 In reply to StormyMirror [2015-09-20 18:04:14 +0000 UTC]

I don't own any animation software.

And why don't you make your own animation?
Because honestly, your assumption that you have to make your own whatever to have an opinion on a subject is quite bias.
I can apply everything you said to you as well.

If you got a problem with someone's opinion, grow up.

StormyMirror In reply to Timewap1 [2015-09-21 23:53:30 +0000 UTC]

Considering I've attempted to make a flash animation and failed miserably before I would know how hard it is. If you're going to make assumptions about things you haven't even experienced then your opinion means nothing. You have no knowledge about the difficulty of making flash animations or any type of animation. If you also take away the animation part, it's obvious the artist worked hard on the illustration for the puppet. Until you can produce something with higher quality than this, then and only then will I take your opinion into consideration.

Timewap1 In reply to StormyMirror [2015-09-22 04:09:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry but I won't take yours into consideration. Because you aren't bothering to use that brain of your's anyway.
All this whining about "you didn't make this" is like a child whining about being an adult while crying like a baby because he can't make the connection that adults don't do that.

Your opinion is flawed because somehow you can't be convinced one can imagine. I never hit myself with a hammer but i'm damn well sure it would hurt like hell.
I never made The Mona Lisa but i'm sure Da Vinci must have spent a good amount of time working on it day in and day out.
I have never been a scientist but i'm sure that they can do things I can only imagine.

That doesn't mean I can't point to examples and compare them just because I didn't make a shitty version myself to compare it to.
Your only reason for complaining is that I called someone you like "lazy" and somehow you must defend their honor because heaven forbid an artist take any negative criticism.

You are a fool. A fool with their head up their ass who gets offended that they smell something other than shit.

StormyMirror In reply to Timewap1 [2015-09-22 07:24:42 +0000 UTC]

But the thing is, you have no experience. You can't judge whether this is lazy are not. You don't know how much time was put in it, this artist may achieve things you can only imagine. Your opinion is also flawed. I would also like you to explain what it so lazy about it, the animation is smooth, the illustration is good, the run is excellent and the cycle flows perfectly. So tell me, why is this animation, which you seem to know so much about, is what you would call lazy.

halmtier [2011-07-30 00:48:54 +0000 UTC]

Hey, could you post (maybe in scraps) the base file/layers you used before making it puppet? I'm just wondering how you started and what parts your separated before making this. From what I can see- each legg is a layer, the tail, and the body. Eyes are separate (or at least blinking) I assume?

I really like the flow you have on these and am trying to get a good puppet set up going for my characters as well. =3
keep up the good work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lizkay In reply to halmtier [2011-08-01 20:44:10 +0000 UTC]

As for the layers, I used one for each leg, the tail, three for the body (belly, head/neck, back) Eyes are part of the head
layer (precomposition-wise)
the only base file I had for the puppet animation was an animated wave-line for the spine, and I looked at various dog/cat videos to see when
which leg has to touch the ground. (I marked the legs with numbers and a dot on the background marked the frame when this leg has to be on the ground and so on)
I am afraid I don't really have those things available anymore to upload (they where only help-lines and guides I removed after the animation was done )
hope that description could help you none the less

Initially it was a character of one of my old stories/comics that never got finished, but I loved this character so much that I let it live on
he is supposed to be a gryphon hybrid, otter-like body with a newt-like fin
